It would be cool if tanks could let people ride on the outside of it.
Obviously not that many though, haha. Troops would take damage like normal. Maybe allow them to shoot whatever guns they have in a limited turning radius. I can't think of any way this would hurt gameplay.

Hopefully there will be good troop carrying vehicles already, but this would be a nice bonus. Hoping onto a tank for shooting but most likely as quick transport. Get on and straight to battle with the tank carrying you. Be nice if they add it

We dont need more dedicated transports, the deli is fine if its implimented correctly. It would be better designed as a medium tank witha few passenger slots. It needs to move faster. (currently moves only about 2 kph faster than a magrider.) And its armor bumped about 20%. It carries half a squad and crosses water. It just needs to move considerably faster to make up for its lack of armor and firepower versus a tank and to help it function better as a smaller transport.
If you want to carry an entire squad, you can get a sunderer. Its can carry your squad, even your maxes and has tons of gunner slots and obnoxious amounts of armor. It can even pass thru base shields and emp to clear mines and shutdown turrets just before you bail out to enter the base/tower. In fact its design is perfect for organized squads...we just dont have many of those anymore. A ground vehicle thats designed just for transport will almost never get used. So it must have some function for fighting as well as transport. The deli used to be great for this til the last tank buff/vehicle "balance pass", that left the deli lacking in armor and made it much slower compared to other vehicles. (it used to be my favorite vehicle and could hold its own versus tanks and esp air when crewed by a skilled group.) Having said that. The game still lacks a "flying deli". A lib sized attack vehicle that could carry half a squad. Pilot, 2gunners, 2 passengers. Could be used like a mini gunship. It of course has much less armor so it moves at a decent speed and has an afterburner for quick hit and run attacks or for fast transport of smaller groups. Yes a phantasm moves people, but requires cloaking and cant attack anything, it serves a totally different purpose, more of a stealth spec ops group. As long as sitting on a tank in battle is a death trap I'm cool with it.
I like transport being a bit more spontaneous/facilitated. Let the deliverer carry a full half squad with a max, add a lightweight aerial transport, let people climb on shit. But if they get on a tank, and the tank gets hit by a shell, the dudes on the outside should be hurting big time.

I think it's a great idea, it would surely add to the immersion. However, it kind of depends on how and if the infantry are needed as support for the tank.
The reason we see so many infantry riding on the tank in WWII are because a tank squad would rarely go somewhere without infantry support. They are as crucial as the tanks itself. I mean, I wouldn't sit on a tank that's on it's way to combat only to jump off in/before the battle not being able to do anything else but being cannon fodder. But if I can support the tank in any way possible, I might be interested to do so. |

I don't see hitching (As I shall now call it) taking out the use of transport vehicles. If you are hitching, you risk dieing, if you are inside you are protected. That alone is reason enough to choose transport over hitching a ride.
The main problem with transport stuff now, is that the only ground vehicle really for transport, is the Sundy. However, it is fatally flawed. It is too big and too clumsy. The Delis are more combat oriented. There is also not really a reason to move a bunch of troops in a single ground vehicle. Why not just get tanks? The Galaxy works, because it flies, allowing you to bypass stuff easily. Hitching would mostly cover problems like having an odd number of people, or things like that.

I think hitching would make a great addition to both vehicle and grunt alike, brill idea Reaver,
Having agreed in principle now we just need to haggle on price would you have it for MBT only or would the lightning style light tank be able carry perhaps max 2 infantry where the MBT could carry 4 or 5? One small thing I'd suggest would be to make the hitch button differant from the mount vehicle as gunner or driver button. I'd also like to see restricted weapon use while you are hitching
