Why?
Yes. I know you must get it a lot, but I am curious. Its next to unfathomable to have any real legitimate reason to not want to be in a guild, or be adverse to at least listening to voice comms in an MMO, nevermind an MMOFPS. Yet, some people are. So my question is this, why? what about it makes it something you want to avoid? What led you to that conclusion? I am genuinely curious about the reasons behind this.

Some people just log on to screw around or play casually for a half hour or so, nothing wrong with that. A lot of people don't have time for outfits.

i can get not having the time to find or even participate in an outfit, thats not what I refer to. There are people that actively avoid it even if they have the time for it.

Some people are antisocial. Welcome to life. -.-
What I don't understand is how people play with no sound. I literally can't play a game without sound. If there is no sound, I don't play. It's as if my skill level goes from MAX to nada.

I dont know, I guess I just don't 'get' why antisocial people would play an MMO to begin with.

I'm not opposed to voice comms or guilds but I'm tired of having to register with 50 different damn websites and be logged into 20 different teamspeak channels at the same time to play one game especially ones that have things like post/activity requirements. Not all of us are 14 years old with no responsibilities.
Also, I'm tired of having to register on all these different websites/forums that look like they were designed by someone with a head injury...IN 1995. I like PSU though. |

Communication is key to winning. And voice comms make communicating x100 easier.
As for applying to a guild/clan in MMOs your more likely to achive things and gain new things and most of all win. So an application Is to know abit about you. I have played eve online for years. And once I was joining a well known pvp corp. I joined there comms where I had what was like a job interview yet I'm stilled ranked in the top 1000 for pvp kills. True story...

Multiplayer is much more challenging and fun than singleplayer, so people who like to play games but don't want to worry themselves over organizing and coordinating will nonetheless play multiplayer due to the better gameplay. If they wanted to go play Mass Effect 2 or some other singleplayer game instead, they would. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Actively avoiding guilds is easily explained in that some people prefer to simply log in and play. Voice comms is the same deal. Some people don't want to bother with trying to coordinate stuff. Have you never been in a guild/outfit/whatever that regularly uses voice comms and one day just wanted to log in, play for 15 minutes and not worry about trying to get a group together and organizing some big plan? Imagine that, except it's a feeling that lasts for 30 minutes, or an hour, or whatever. Anyway, this is my take on it. Sometimes I join outfits, sometimes I'd rather just play alone without voice comms and just enjoy the game without taking it too seriously. I'm good enough at multiplayer games that I do as well as I'd like to do without coordinating with people, so it's not a big deal to me either way whether I'm working as a team or flying solo. B) Hearing a southern accent or a canadian accent breaks immersion. C) I can't even talk on the phone and drive at the same time, multi-tasking and me is like oil and water. D) Guild leaders use guild members as fodder. E) Guild leaders are very lousy tacticians. F) Guild leaders are lousy role players. Although this might be the fault of the game engine. G) I can type faster than talk. Last edited by Buggsy; 2012-07-21 at 10:11 PM. |

a - granted, though not all outfits are like that. b- wut? c- multitasking? it consists of holding a key down while ducking into a corner and relaying information. d- wut? No. e- wut? kind of insulting, many outfit leaders in ps1 are pretty great tacticians. some are lousy, sure, but all? no. f- wut? kind of a blanket statement there. g- granted, though its easier to react when i hear it rather than read it. a split second matters in some situations.

I'm a lurker on comms, always have been...Unless my house/flat/wherever im currently playing is empty or we're doing something important (dungeon busting, competitive PvP, or another organised event).
I don't like the idea of my family or flatmates hearing me essentially talk to myself about things in a game, especially when they're not 'gamers'. Also, i come from communities where the voice comm side of it was only used for important and organised events, only a handful of people actually sat on TS/Vent or whatever all the time...I like to talk to everyone in guild, not just those on comms . (Quick edit here - I also love music, listen to it almost all the time when im playing games, unless its a super serious event or whatever. If im on comms all the time, my music would have to be off...No thanks :P, i can still type to you) As for not joining a guild/outfit/whatever in an MMO...I can relate to that...Currently Outfitless in PS as i just don't have the time to invest in it properly, the new one is on the horizon and finding organised squads hasn't been that difficult (i also get hit with outfit invites sometimes, without even a polite /whisper...That's annoying). As for playing an 'offline mode' instead of multiplayer or an MMO...Just no...Playing against bots is totally different from playing against people. I used to play BF2142 quite a bit, i never got into the whole 'clan' thing, but i used to play religiously on two servers owned by the same clan (=MNKY= just in case haha ) if those servers were down, empty or full i'd maybe play on another but usually i'd just play another game altogether because i loved the rule set up, aswell as the way the admins managed the server. Despite not saying anything in game, not registering on their forums, not using their public TS or whatever, most of the guys in the clan seemed to quite like me and in some instances kicked multiple doofus' who were being prats towards me, after getting their dogtags multiple times , or people who were convinced i was a hacker and would spam chat with crap like that. (They seemed to like how i was a psychopathic drop ship pilot hahah ...I loved flying those fine ladies ). Don't be too surprised if someone wants to play a online good shooter, just to shoot people. Or a good online RPG, just to stab orcs. Last edited by Atlas; 2012-07-22 at 06:36 PM. |

I hear horror stories about WoW guilds. Officer drama, demanding all hours of your evenings spent raiding, controlling everything with how you build your character, or trying to screw you over in battles or with loot.
