Planetside - The Red Headed Step Child

Haven't been around for a while...life is busy. Nor have I played Planetside in quite some time. Currently playing Everquest 2 and enjoying it, but, I noticed something today after yesterday's big update....

...An ingame mail system was put into place. Not only can you mail messages and gifts to other players in EQ2, but you can also send messages to players in SWG and the first EQ. Thats when I noticed something odd. Planetside was not on the list. I thought that was kind of a big slap in the face...or its...nah...I won't say it....

One reason probably is that PS does not have a mail system like SWQ, and EQ(2).

Or carebears who want to go outside the HART building just to take a bunch of bills out of a box.

Chatting with friends isn't the main reason people play Planetside, unlike EQ 1/2 and SW:G.

Blatantly it's because the PlanetSide players would send hate mail to the MMORPGs

Well that would require Medium Assault, Heavy Assault, and 60 cavern hacks to unlock the Goin Postal Cert, which allows you to use the Hate Mailer 5000.

Then you would have to piss on a rock on each continent to unlock the merit for Can't Find Nothing to Kill, which lets you use the SOEpam System...even if its a bug.

Dont worry, there will be a patch that fixes the mail, changes the Hate Mailer 5000 into a staplegun, and randomly locks all the doors at Acan.

I wouldn't gloat about that. It's like an admission that the majority of EQ2 players are fat, lazy sloths who can't be bothered to scrape their pasty white asses off their chairs and pick up a damn phone. That or they're such hopeless recluses that they shun human contact to the point of making telephone calls to order a pizza themselves.

Don't worry, I still have faith that the devs will put a /hookers&icecream command in.

Sweeping generalisation alert!

Besides, /pizza just takes you to the Pizza Hut website.

I wasn't saying all EQ2 players are like that, only that it's the impression I get when developers feel the need to add a feature like that to their game.

I highly doubt the devs thought it would be a good feature, pizza hut did. $$$$$

Anyways, about the mail system, I've been playing EQ for a couple years now, and I can agree that as mentioned above, chatting with friends is a huge part of playing EQ, as it is a very chat friendly game, you spend more time just sitting around doing literally nothing than you do actually "playing" EQ.

In PS terms, there are some people on EQ who log in, sit in the sanc with LFS on for 3+ hours sending tells to people and talking in outfit chat, while giving low BR players other empire weapons that they've looted, or /auctioning them for platinum (currency in EQ)

Not too easy to stop and chat when you have a JH in your face in our case

Yeah, it's marketing more than a reflection of the players.

Hey guys, how about we get all tied up on semantics and go off on a wicked tangent? That would be so awesome.

Sounds like a great idea

(Although technically it's not, since it's a feature that was also added to EQ2 and not to PlanetSide )
