Outfit wars

Hi

Maybe a dev could answer this, but are there any plans for outfit type wars to be held in planetside2? as Im sure you are aware there are a lot of rivals on each faction and i think it would be awesome to have a separate server or map reserved for outfit training/wars. The outfit wars that were held on planetside 1 were very successful and i hear stories about how fun it was from a number of people. It would be awesome to have this in game so people could book a map or server for a certain day to have outfit wars and possibly even go as far as having an in game league of some kind?

Just an idea.

I would get behind this idea, but only if it were an event only. Giving everyone instant, 24/7 access to an arena will take some of the best outfits off the front lines imo. tl;dr It's gonna hurt gameplay on the main server.

As long as it isn't some sort of que'd instance. Doesn't fit with the game.

If we, as outfits, have some means to own bases so that it shows up on the map as such then this will happen regardless. Plus that would fit in the universe. There are some outfits out there that I would love to battle over a base with.

No, i think a booking schedule of some kind that this outfit and this outfit have booked this place and this time for this time period is a great idea. There will be a time limit that the outfits can stay in the arena for so that they are not taken away from the main fight for too long, and hour 2 at max or something.

Even going as far as allowing a certain amount of people to watch the wars, those on cool downs for grief or even those not subscribed could still login and view the wars or something, as said not to take away people from the main fight.

I don't know if you guys remember a little game called c&c renegade back in 2001 i think, they had this feature built into the game and chat rooms for outfits & certain servers, i actually think planetside stole a few ideas from this game with the stealth suits, 3rd person etc.. but that's a while new topic! was a great game and the outfit/clan integration was a massive success sometimes seeing up to 5 or 6000 people playing.

No. No booking, no official leagues, no seperate servers for special people.

Renegade was ultimately an arena shooter, yes? 2 teams face off in a XX:XX minute match trying to destroy each other's base.

Outfit wars were a joke, and as a result of them my outfit effectively left PS.

The first match we had we had 45 members show up ready an hour before it was meant to start, when all we needed was 30; one of the proudest moments of my life. We were by no means a zergfit, most nights we would be pleased to get more than a squad on.

Then one of our matches was classed as a ties because the GM's couldn't get their timings right.

Then another because we smashed the enemy and removed all their spawn points, causing them to respawn in Sanc; their GM thought there was a problem and decided it was a draw.

Then the next two matches we played were delayed by 45-60 minutes because the opposition outfits couldn't scrape together enough troops from their empire to field a full platoon.

Within a month of them finishing we had gone from 50 members a day to 5.

If there is anything like them I hope it is fully automated requiring no GM to monitor them; allow outfits to capture and claim bases, and keep a tally of when their outfit has been instrumental in capturing an enemy outfit base.

I'm afraid that it would shift the game from it's original idea. In a way what happened with WoW. When the implemented instanced PVP, basically all open world PVP died away, cos BGs and especially arena was "the only PVP that mattered".

I'm not baseline against the idea, but it should never shift PS away from the usual concept.

This topic comes up quite frequently and never ends well it seems..

I am not against a structured competition system. And even though what I just said will be taken out of context.. I will explain.

This system needs to be built outside of the game where only those participating in the events can be brought to by GMs.

It shouldn't be an open system that "Takes away from the game" because they would be scheduled events not a place you can jump in anytime you feel like it. Heck Planetside 1 has it now with old Oshur.

Anyway I think this would be neat, but not at release.. if it happens at all well after release.

Wow that sucks :\ This is why the system would need to be purpose built.

With outfit bases and specializations, I think it will be more common in PS2 to have unintended "outfit wars" on the live servers. But yeah, outfit wars was fun, but I think that should be something to be discussed several months after release, not on day 1. Outfits need a while to grow, learn the game, and learn their enemies. And yeah, it should be totally offline and not take away from the game. I very glad they didn't add the battledome and whatever that other map was called to PS1. It had no place.

There are plenty of other games that provide instanced PvP.

Like Hamma said, I can see this discussion not ending in a lot of positive comments. I am going to refrain from saying some of the counterproductive comments to this topic.

Leave PS2 open world and not instanced in any form. A portion of the PvP community has been waiting a while for a real SandBox PvP to emerge since the last in Shadowbane. Darkfall tried and failed, PlanetSide 2 is really the one of the few AAA titles out there that is going to provide this experience in open world persistent PvP in the form of a FPSMMO.

If you want a Unit fight, Communicate it to the opposing Unit, set up a time/place, gear up, and move out and draw fire in the Open world of PS2.

Totally not keen on 'outfit battles'. Sorry. Nevertheless that's not to allow outfit leaders to formally agree to contend each other.

No instancing in Planetside 2 thank you very much!

This is the second terrible idea suggested on the forums in the last couple of days, I hope it's not a start of some new trend.

Its a great idea actually. We need a dedicated area meant exactly for this. Be it if it is exclusive to outfit type war events or branching out to let outfits face at anytime.
