Slow Page Load Times

Hey All,

We have been tracking some slow page load time issues here on PSU. These load time issues cause you to sometimes see the dreaded "Service Unavailable" page.

We continue to make modifications to the servers and code to curb this issue. This morning I've made a pretty significant tweak that *knocks on wood* seems to have cleared some things up. Please report in this thread if you are experiencing one (or all) of the following:

Slow Load Times - In excess of 10 seconds.
Service Unavailable Pages - You should almost never see these. Please report here if you are seeing them.
Any other anomalies you are witnessing.

Glad you posted... Yes, just this morning was getting the message that says the site is experiencing network load issues. What was different about today is that the message only occurred when I tried to open a thread and it happened very quickly. I could still load and refresh the forums and sub-forums sections.

Of course, this isn't happening right now to me.

I've been getting service unavailable pages for the past few days, but, as Crator said, it seems to have stopped suddenly.

Been suffering from this badly over the last 2 days; glad that you are on the case. Thought that it might be something to do with my remote location (Orkney Islands).

I'll let you know whether I get any more problems.

Im getting service unavailable about every second or third page I open on here, both forum and wiki.

It's been happening to me too for the last few days. Sometimes it would be fine for a while, then boom! Random spike of "service unavailable" for an hour or so.

The last time that happened was about an hour ago, I will see if it stops for me too and post again if it carries on.

The instant fail on page load is a new thing.. uncertain at the moment what is causing that.

For past few days, I have been getting service unavailable pages and when I do connect, forum pages load very slow, same experience from different computers I use, in different locations and ISP providers.

However, no issues at all today.

The site is super-snappy now. Last few days were pretty atrocious. I apologize for not reporting the issues - I was in "surely someone else has said something" mode.

now the adverts have gone the site is fast again, was very slow last few days and sometimes didnt even load and spat out an error.

It wasn't the adverts - it was something else going on for users logged in only. Adverts now show for everyone but contributors.

ah ok. just saw no ads and faster web site lol. cool. glad its all fixed, was missing my PSU fix

Seems like it's back to normal now. At least, I would've expected it to crap out by now if it hadn't (it was happening quite frequently).

Whatever you guys have done seems to have worked.
