Why are we limited to 2GB

Hey Guys,

I bet this has been covered before. Why does planetside 2 limit itself to 2 GB
of RAM, is this because it uses directx 9 ?

And if so why would such an ambitious and resource intensive game intentionally limit itself like that.

Also I read somewhere that PS2 utilizes 2GB RAM + 2GB VRAM
so if i get a graphic card with 2GB would that boost my performance substantially ?

I have a 560ti now which im quite happy with
and will upgrade when Nvidia 7xx series come out and when Haswell intel chips come out as well.
I'm wondering whether i should hold out a bit longer for Nvidia Maxwell it's supposed to be a pretty big jump in performance.

Something to do with 32 bit/old system support? I don't really know.

Could just be that SOE has never proven to be very good at game engine building/maintaining.

Maxwell won't be around until next year...the 560Ti could certainly hold you over...but I'm going from a 570 to a 770, probably.
