The new cockpit view screenshot looks great, but as a pilot, whenever a game gives me the chance, I turn it off and go for the wider view. Currently, we know of two choices for pilots:
1. Cockpit view. 2. 3rd person. Should there be a third option? Option 3 would still be a 1st person view, but would turn off the cockpit graphics and give you just a HUD, like the earlier screenshots we have seen. Having the HUD View would cater to pilots, as they would be able to see more, but forcing cockpit view offers another distinction between aircraft and their possible advantages/disadvantages. Should SOE force cockpit graphics? Cockpit View HUD View HUD View, zoomed with limited FoV.

I too support forcing it, as it makes a game more immersive and can be a balance issue between aircraft. I don't like to put bias in the original post with polls.
Hopefully all ground vehicles will offer them same thing. Driving a harasser in 1st person was fun, but never the smart choice. If it is the only option, it will be more appreciated.

If there's a cockpit view, it should be forced in my opinion. Pilots that have it off will have an advantage VS those who do not. The simple answer is "turn off the cockpit view newb." Why even have it if that's the case.

No it shouldn't, I am all for cockpit views, I love them, its all I use until.......................... you try to park the thing between 2 trees and then things get difficult. Also there isn't much to gain from 3rd person view in the air. Also ground vehicles shouldn't have it forced, I know there is a slight advantage to having the view on for spotting reasons, but I don't think it outweighs the advantage of parking etc. Thing is your in game senses are different from real world, so we need the 3rd person view to make up for that.
And just to clear, I don't think 3rd person for infantry has any place in PS2. But to be an affective precision pilot in this kind of fast paced game, we need 3rd person on vehicles. Thats not to say we could have a speed limit on 3rd person???.. Morto. |

SuperMorto, I think you misunderstand the question. Should the Cockpit graphics be forced IN first person, or should you be able to hide it.

Forced. I do get the logic of having third person for parking/,manuevering tight spaces, but that is what practice is for. I think forcing it is an excellent addition to separate the expert from beginners.
I want to be able to bring a galaxy into a tight spot and feel like I have reached a pinnacle because I know how to fly. |

Ahhh yes I see what you mean, the question is the cockpit graphics?.... Well even this I think should not be forced, but for a different reason than most of you. I know how important a clear view from an aircraft will be for video/film makers when PS2 is here. But I do agree that in the cockpit you should always see the controls so no one person has any advantage, so I suggest being able to disable UI, cross-hair and Control graphics** with the F10 key, so if you have it all turned off then you cant shoot.

The way I'd like to see it handled would be:
1. Cockpit on, look around enabled, more info on instruments. 2. Cockpit off, greater forward visibility but forward view is locked. 3. Not a fan of 3rd person, but I don't have a problem with them putting it in for the noob pilots. |
