PS2 #3 of PCGamer's Top 25 Greatest Shooters of All Time

The latest issue of PCGamer has been released and it features their top 25 shooters of all time. Keep in mind this list is made up exclusively of PC games.

Well any list that put Team Fortress 2 on it most be crap. Who the fuck even consider it a FPS game?! You play it in 3rd person view and it sucks hard FFS. Those at PC gamer have sucky taste in game I tell you.

Doom is too high on the list if Wolfenstien is at the bottom. Borderlands 2 is in top 5 shooters of all time... Why? It was a good game, but really number 5? Swat 4 is on the list, but not Rainbow Six or any Tom Clancy game? I'm confused.

Looks like a list of games dropped in random numbers to me.

that´s more like a milestone list. but then planetside 1 would deserve at lease the third place, followed by ps2.

because ps1 was more of a vision than ps2 currently is. and ps2 does nothing, ps1 already did 10 years ago. just some more players and up to date graphics. the true innovation was already done with planetside 1

IMO ... PS2 is technically and financially superior to PlanetSide 1. It deserves a high spot on the list.

PS1 might have been a real innovation, but guys, as much as I love the game, it's fucking old. It had some really shitty mechanics that were doled over with an excellent purpose to the game and other mechanics which were added later. Now, PS2 has its problems, but PS1 doesn't belong on the list mostly because it was ahead of its time in all the wrong ways.

It's a list that keeps in mind that the games industry has tried hard to make more entertaining games over the years. Some old games you can go back to and play today as if it was an excellent and fun experience if you can tolerate the old graphics. Unless you are already a fan of it, PS1 is not one of those games.

Early TF2 was a good team-based shooter. It was superbly balanced and fun. Now it's just hat fortress.

no, it was fps. it only featured a 3rd p view for all units option like ps2 has just for vehicles.

Planetside 1 was quite revolutionary for its time; I just feel that server hardware/netcode + average client PC's just weren't fully ready for a game of that magnitude in 2003. Most people did not have broadband at that time.

Not to mention, PS1 was not advertised very well at all from what I remember.

My point about PS1 being old is.. well, it's age shows in all the places that count.
Doom is like... a patented genre of games... "classic shooter"

PS1 is most certainly a better RPG and MMO than PS2, imo.
