Unstableness (not a mac rant) **rare**

My os is WinXP pro and a few days ago my internet browsers FireFox and Explorer started crashing alot.

Next thing I knew when ever I opened anything a folder a game a app I would get a popup giving an error message for either browser saying it crashed. And then whatever app or folder I just opened crashs to. This is now starting to happen almost whenever I open anything. I checked with a few security apps: Norton, spybot, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 1.2. And I doubt its virus/trojen related.

edits: Some new weird things that just started today: Shortcut icons are randomly loseing/gaining their picture when I reboot.

Any advise on what to do before I reformate and delete everything?

Wow thats odd, never heard of anything like it, atleast SP2 worked for you too(atleast mostly.)

I would do a spyware Scan With adaware 6.0 and spybot search and destroy. if that doens't help you may have to resort to the format
