I am pulling back this build until I get more time to research proper compatibility for ram vs motherboard and a few other things. Looks like it might have to be an AMD CPU to stay under $1000 and still get a good GPU.

Case suggestion: have a look at more cases or get another recomendation or review of these. You might get better for the price. But I'm sitting at a price of 25-35 dollars max. second one might be better if you aren't going to expand more but the first has more room. and there is a 35 dollar version of the first one!

This is incase the motherboards lan can have a crap out driver issues with windows potentially. It can but there is a driver on HP's site to fix it(make sure you download them if you buy this board right away just in case. Not sure how often it happens. It may not be often. Plus you will always have a PCI lan card to spare. It can be a lifesaver. I would put a PCIe1x but they are more expensive. When there are no more PCI slots on boards upgrade to a PCI1x so that is is cheaper later! Always have a spare Lan/network ability!

This has no taxes in it. This is also post Rebates so you will pay more upfront. The final mockup will show pre rebates.

****Make sure you check the PSU for full cord support and power need. I didnt look yet to double check. Wait and see if anyone comes on to double check also. And look at the case. I'm not sure if those are good under the circumstances. Though they sound ok!

If you go AMD it's the FX4170 or nothing. Clock speed is going to help way more than 2 more cores, and you even save money.
But at $125 bucks the i3 2120 is better in almost everything.

Tom's doesn't recommend any AMD cpus at any price level right now.

I was figureing if if didn't matter for gaming since the GPU could handle it he could use it for stuff that could use the multicores. Plus it's $130. Does the i3 really beat out the second highest FX CPU at that range? I figured it wouldn't matter enough at this point.

He could save the money for other components. I'm running an AMD Phenom II 1100T and don't notice any problems in anything. Maybe I'm not running big enough games though. I'm assuming mechwares and PS2 won't kill the processor. Especially if it gets the system in his price range.
