Ok, I've been at it again with my modeling. I actually have quite a few different models in the works- Gauss Rifle, Lasher, Pulsar, AMP, etc. etc. etc.
I'm also working on re-doing the vehicles as well. Anyway, here are some renders of my new MCG design. I know it is pretty radical at first, but take a look at it before you jump to conclusions and freak out I tried to incorporate a large enough drum magazine to be able to realistically contain 1000 rounds of 10mm *caseless* ammunition. While 1000 rounds may seem like a huge amount, it really isn't when you look at the ammunition feed rates of modern miniguns. Anyway, the MCG is supposed to be a support weapon, and not something to be used in close combat, able to be quickly pointed at short ranged fast moving targets. This design reflects this. Basically I wanted to come up with something that would be similar to a modern day SAW (M249), but still keep the design ideas of a Mini Chain Gun. Actually, there is no need to call it a "chain" gun, as it isn't chain driven. People tend to latch on to the word 'chain' and use it where it has absolutely no application (Devs for instance). Anyway, the design reflects a minigun built for use by a single person, and man portable, able to be fired from the shoulder so as to improve accuracy, while still able to be fired from the hip in a suppression role. To reload it, the drum attaches at the front mounting point first, and then is pivoted into the reciever, where it locks in. Removal of the drum is just the opposite, hitting the magazine release, and then pivoting the drum away from the weapon. Ammunition is either a hyper velocity (5000 fps) 10mm depleted uranium APDS (armor piercing discarding sabot) round, utilizing a 5mm penetrator, or a slightly lower velocity (3000 fps) HEI (high explosive incendiary) round. The advantage of the HEI round is that it is more effective against softer targets, and has a small area of effect upon impact, while the HV-APDS round is better for heavier armored targets. A note on the 'scope': a variable zoom electro-optical sight is standard on the minigun, even though it is a 'support' weapon. Anway, here are the renders: As usual, let me know what you think! (I'm sure you will) |

Anyway back on topic: from the sound ofd them they seem pretty cool but for some reason I can't see the pics. maybe it's just the shitty computer I'm using at work. EDIT: Ok I can see the pics now they do look awesome but the drum seems a little big. I'm sorry about that whole thing about asshat but it needed to be said didn't mean to take away from your thread. Well, at least I'm getting *some* feedback. Can you spam idiots please just not post if you don't have anything constructive to say? Thanks in advance. Thanks for the feedback from the rest of you guys.
As for that feedback: I can always do a simple box magazine, but I wanted to try something different. Also, the gun is quite long already, with the barrel assembly being 24" long (that's regular length for a gun barrel of that caliber). It just appears 'short' because you're used to looking at models like the PS MCG (which is completely unrealistic). |

I think I agree, the barrel underneath is kinda ugly, but I understand it's purpose. Good comment about the use of "chain" where it has no purpose. I like the pics, you obviously did a lot of work for this, good job. A little modification on the ammo cannister along with a slightly longer muzzle would make it look cooler, but I don't know if that's what you're really going for here.
