After Optimization: AMDs FX (CPU) series

Hey there. Currently thinking about building a new PC and as I am bit tight on budget thinking about going AMD. From early release I still remember that AMD users had quiet a few problems. Are those still present?
What could one expect (in terms of FPS) to get out of the FX-6 and FX-8 series?
