Hmmm suspicious for sure. I don't want to start a debate on this at all, but although I personally don't care about piracy that much, I think their stance toward it is justified, although they perhaps didn't need to go as over the top as they did. Regardless of any of that though, their music is amazing.

I think if it was any other band it would have been career suicide to do what they did

I just think its ironic that their music is now downloadable after all the crap they went through, regardless if its right or wrong.

I lost alot of respect for them over the years... Metallica is not what it used to be.

Edit: Also, I don't see why they're getting so bunched up about the whole downloading thing... see... they don't make that much money from record sales. They make a bundle more by touring and the such.

Don't care what you say about the Napster shit, their new records, "selling out," or cutting their hair.

They still fucking rock out.

I honestly prefer Avenged Sevenfold to Metallica. Atleast they aren't a bunch of fucking pissy spoiled brats.

Lol, please tell me when you think of bands equivalent to Metallica you don't think of Avenged Sevenfold. Metallica was rocking out before they knew how to walk.

And then? The old stuff was fairly good... but now...? They're in it only for the money... they don't care about making good music or their fans...

I'm not saying they're equivalent... I'm in fact saying that they are superior... the old stuff would be equivalent... but now... Metallica has been reduced to a big steaming pile of crap.

IMO, as soon as a band "makes it big" it's all about the money from then on. It's the "no-name, still working at Kinkos" bands that do it for the fans. What few fans they might have at that time.

Re: Metallica on iTunes

Avenged Sevenfold is a flash in the pan band that will be around for another 5 or 6 years max. 20 years from now, no one will remember them beyond the people who were huge fans. Metallica, on the other hand, is the 7th best selling musical act in America ever. People will be listening to, and remembering them the same as other legendary bands like the Beatles and the Stones. To put Avenged Sevenfold in the same sentence as Metallica is downright laughable, much less comparing the two as if they were equals.

I'll admit, St. Anger sucked. Their new releases ever since Black Album have been progressively worse. And I don't care what you say, their fight against illegal downloading was a legitimate cause. They have a right to be angry about people stealing their music. Does that mean I agree with them? No, in fact I really couldn't care less about music piracy. Yes, perhaps they were over zealous in their fight, which is why they garnered so much disdain from so many fans. However, none of that makes a difference when it comes to their legacy and overall status as a band. They are one of the best bands ever, something others can only hope to emulate.

And yes, despite their recent studio offerings, they still rock the fuck out live.

It will be forgotten in five to six years? I've been listening to them ever since they released the Warmness on the soul album. They've been accepted within the hardcore community as a great band and althought they don't have the same fan base as Metallica they will not die so easily. Even with their change of music style from hardcore to metal, they have retained a huge loyal fan base...

I met these guys after a concert and to be honest they have got to be the most down to earth guys ever... they don't really care about the fame they only care about making fans happy and making good music. They put on a show to entertain people.

Metallica will fart in a microphone and call it music... they just don't care anymore by now they are laughing they're asses off in a pool full of money. I'm sorry but they have lost so much of my respect in the past few years that I just don't like them that much anymore... the old stuff I can still stand but the rest is down right annoying.

I'm sorry I feel the same way about you comparing Metallica to the Beatles.

I guess what we can learn from this thread is that taste in music are like butt holes, everyone has their own and they all stink.

Re: Metallica on iTunes

The fact that your band (I say your because I've typed Avenged Sevenfold enough already), is down to earth and is in the business, at least in your opinion, only for the fans, is admirable, and I wish more bands would take that stance. That doesn't mean they will ever be as successful as Metallica is. Also, is it safe to assume you haven't met Metallica, because it's not exactly fair to pass judgement on them without even meeting them the same way you did with your band.

Bottom line, I like Sevenfold. They're a good band, don't get me wrong. But it's mind boggling to me how you could compare the two as equals or even declare Sevenfold a better band than Metallica. Metallica may indeed be pompous pricks obsessed with their egos and money. Or they may be honest people who love making music and don't like seeing it stolen. Neither you nor I can make that determination, which leaves only each band's achievements to measure them with.
