First off, it's not "quick": you have to holster your other weapon, pull your knife and only then slash, then you unholster your weapon again rather than simply preparing for the next slash. Basically, it's a silly unintuitive system. Second, the 'T' is not a button you can easily press while making any and all strafe and walking maneuvres. Don't know about you, but I only have four fingers on my left hand. In console games it's usualy tied to a button with dual functionality: movement and slash/bash, that's not possible with a keyboard. To me it makes far more sense to equip your knife like you would any other gun or tool in preparation of the fight and use the mouse button to slash. Third of all, stab or double stab for "winning" at close range is rather boring. I've gotten quite a few simple knife kills already with next to no warning for the opponent to do anything about it. There's no real challenge to it. I would personally prefer a longer TTK and not the throat slash sneak kill you see in some other games. Once we have permanent cloakers, knifing will increase in usage and single/dual stabbing people won't be perceived as fun on the receiving end. So that has to be compensated for a little bit. If we look at how PS1 did it considering the cloaker usage of knives, it took four to five hits to kill with a knife duel and therefore only useful against the very weak and very unaware. It was fun and an adrenaline rush, because it entailed a big risk trying to knife people. In PS2 and most modern shooters, knifing has little satisfactory value: you don't feel like you overcome a big challenge and the opposition feels they did not participate in the duel. Especially if lag due to playing online becomes an issue too... On top of that, there's no tension build up where you see yourself sneak up on someone with a knife going "kekekekekeke", it's more of an anti-climax, since you sneak up on them with this gun in front of you all the time and then: "tag, you're it - dead". It was pretty much good sports to fight one another in PS1 with knives too. We even had knife duels between empires in crowded "rings" at times with a lot of local spectators. PS1 also had a special knife mode where it would deal more damage, but would make a warning sound and cost stamina upon a hit. That made higher damage knifing more tactical (although it was often used to signal an opponent to warn them you were in the area and a request to hold their fire as you wanted to knife duel - which often happened ). PS1 had a melee booster implant for double stab kills, but that cost you a slot you could have used for other implants. So it was a tactical and balancing and play style choice. So yeah. Plenty of reason for me. Last edited by Figment; 2012-11-13 at 06:15 AM. |

I would love equitable knives but I don't really see why they would be needed. If you looked they had a melee booster in the infiltrator cert which leads me to believe they will add it back in eventually. The current system is easy i have no problem runnng up shooting someone and then knife them. Its the 2nd fastest way in the game to kill someone.

I remember back in PS1, sometimes I would run out of ammo and instead of just trying to get more I would just take out my knife and run right into the enemy ranks screaming bloody murder! Only being able to get no more than 0-2 slashes in before I was killed. Futile but fun. ^_^

yeah I find it lame that all same knifes make the same zip up sound when you used them. I was hoping for a whurrr from a chainblade, a buzz from a mag cutter and a glowing force blade back.
I was also hoping for cloaker knife assasianation animation so they wont whine about not having shotguns. Shotguns just dont sound like a stealth weapon. I was thinking of a meele booster implant or two, one for alowing those kill animations like a assanation from a softie or a brutal execution from a MAX and mabey one to add stun to meele attacks and a way to counter those kill meele attacks but since implants are gone with the exception of the $tation Ca$h booster implants. they have been scraped. |

one good thing with equipable knives is that you can sort of challange someone to a knife fight. usually if someone starts running at me with there knife out and no one else is around, ill usually see them and be like "OOO ITS ON!!" and commence knife fighting procedures.
those were some good times. |

Thats what I'm talkin' about. If I see someone take a swipe at me ingame, I'll just go for a knife fight and hopefully nobody intervenes. Would be nice to have knives be equipable though, would love to make a train around the NC spawnroom.
