PSU Community,
The PSU administrators have recently held a discussion about what we would like to see on the wiki and the role of the PSU wiki in the future. I'd like to share our vision of the wiki and hope that the PSU community can help make it happen. In the near future, the PSU website will be getting a big makeover. The wiki will be a more important part of PSU after this. We would like to see much of the PlanetSide and PlanetSide 2 game info on the wiki instead of spread out over various places on the site. This will not only make it easier to find the information you need as it will be all at one place, but will make the admin's lives easier too as the community will be able to add info as they like. Some current PSU features like the certification information will be moved to the wiki. Outfit listings will likely remain on the main PSU site, but outfits are encouraged to make a page on the wiki as well. This makes it easier for everyone. Patch notes, installation guides, weapon info, and all other game related information should go on the wiki. The wiki is for information, not discussions. The wiki talk pages are for discussions about the page content themselves, so discussions about balance, your favorite vehicle, etc should go on the PSU forums, not the wiki. The wiki should contain information as unbiased as possible. Avoid incorporating your own personal opinion into wiki pages. However, we do want to see player-written gameplay guides on the wiki as well, where you can share your best method of killing a tank, bombing, etc, but these will be tagged in a separate category and should not be in any of the normal pages. The other big decision the staff has made is regarding the scope of the wiki and how to treat PlanetSide and PlanetSide 2. We weighed several options including trying to make a full wiki for both games, but in the end, we decided that the PSU wiki should primarily contain info only about PlanetSide 2 and not contain detailed PlanetSide 1 content. We decided it would take too much work to bring all of the PS1 info over (for numerous logistical and technical reasons), not to mention it will be confusing to the user when both games are on the same wiki. Futhermore, the focus of the community will soon be on PS2 and PS1 might not even last very long after the release of PS2, so work on PS1 content might not be in our best interest. Therefore, we would like to ask the community to stop making pages with purely PlanetSide 1 content. There are some exceptions, but pages on the inner-workings of the game like vehcle/weapons and gameplay should be limited to PS2 only. However, when appropriate, we would like short PS1 history sections on crossover vehicle/weapon/terminology pages. This can contain a few sentences about how things evolved from PS1 to PS2 and can contain an image from PS1. I have made a mockup page for the Magrider and what a future PS2 wiki page might look like. Since we don't have much information yet, I made most of the stuff up just to fill the page as an example (which is hopefully quite obvious). See it here. In the next few months, we will (hopefully) be getting a lot more info about PlanetSide 2 gameplay and the beta release. We've been used to getting a snippet of information here and there, but the floodgates will soon open and we will need help to keep up. We will be relying on you, the community, to make sure all this info gets put on the wiki in an informative and clean format. -Quovatis |

Im suggesting that you keep, or add, planetside later. Like for example the magrider page: Get the planetside 2 info up top, have the planetside 1 info all the way down. This way people can see how it once was, especialy after Planetside got shut down.

I agree that when PlanetSide 2 is released those sections should move above the PlanetSide ones. When PlanetSide gets shut down I think it'd be worth removing the PS1 sections from the wiki and inserting the odd anecdotal note into the text, for example: "this differs from the original PlanetSide." That would keep a nod to the original without bloating the pages with irrelevant information.

The PS2 info stream is increasing. I invite the community to help update the wiki as we learn more.
As for the previous comments, it's not practical to keep detailed info on PS1 on the wiki. We discussed this heavily internally. But we would like to see short history sections that point out the differences between the PS1 counterpart, if it exists. These PS1 sections really can't be finalized until we know more details about the PS2 counterpart. |

It's unfortunate that PS1 content is being removed. I feel it should be kept for historical purposes, for those new or returning vets interested in brushing up on the origins/mechanics of certain weapons or vehicles, but also in the event that some PS1 content never makes the transition to PS2
Also, very few websites (that are easily searchable) contain any useful information like a wiki. The only one I found that did have relevant content had such a poorly design layout it was painful to use. It'd be nice to have an easily accessible resource that new and old players can utilize while still staying within the community. *reads thread discussing tactics/mechanics/stories/etc* Me: Wtf was a Deliverer again? *wiki searches PSU: "This page has been deleted"* *googles "planetside wiki"* *9/10 1st page results are either useless or point back to PSU* *clicks only relevant link* Me: OW! MY EYES! Pretty much, I find it odd that the wiki in PLANETSIDE UNIVERSE has very little information on the game that started it all |

If you want detailed PS1 info, there is already a wiki for that: http://wiki.planetsidesyndicate.com/...itle=Main_Page
The reasons for not wanting PS1 content on our wiki were explained here. It will be confusing to have two games' worth of content in the same database. And more importantly, PS1 content is far from finished. Our efforts would be much better served fleshing out the new PS2 content that doesn't already exist. Historical references to PS1 content is encouraged when appropriate, but there should not be dedicated pages, since that is confusing. |

I like the idea behind this, making it PS2 only but still making some historical reference to the PS1 content, when it fit's, like you currently do it with the vehicles.
With the beta we will most likely see more info coming up on the wiki, even if that info might change over the course of the beta. |

We prefer that you not directly copy contents from our wiki to another external wiki, however. |
