It's not about IFF, it's about having a neon sign on your head saying "SNIPER HERE, PLEASE CARPET BOMB ME!" when you're supposedly hiding in the bushes. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-08 at 07:25 PM. |

Saying that identifying friendlies with name tags is the same as red names, ONLY applies in a situation where you have both friendlies and enemies in front of you.
Red name tags popping up as enemies are coming in from the outside while you are defending and cannot otherwise see them, that's different. Night, for example. So there is a big difference. It's no better than permanent 3D spotting. Last edited by Stardouser; 2012-06-08 at 07:37 PM. |

It would be pretty dumb if you're defending a base at night and you can just sweep your crosshairs around to find enemies.
They should have the names show up differently at night. Like they only show up at under 30m or something. Would also make night feel even more different. Also, create a delay so your crosshair has to remain on an enemy for more than a split second for the name to show up. Last edited by WorldOfForms; 2012-06-08 at 07:39 PM. |

You DO NOT see the names at all times.
Yeah, cause my squadmates IRL all have green names above their heads, AMIRITE? |

As far as I could tell from the footage, the names only showed up if the person held their crosshair over them for about a second, or shot at them (in which case, the empire-colored shield flare lit up first).
Beyond that, names only appeared when squadmates were firing at them, too. I don't see any issues with that.

Also you're right, i'm sorry: i didn't really pay much attention to that, as i was also tweeting like a maniac to try to score a key. I was only commenting on other people's concerns, as it didn't seem like you were getting what they were saying because you kept talking about the friendly green names, which made it look like your point was about IFF. This is irrelevant to the point, friendly units having names would only affect your ability to know you were next to Kyle instead of Stan. It's the gaming equivalent of being able to see their face to know who they are. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-08 at 08:38 PM. |

Point is, if I can see the difference between Stan and Kyle, then I will also be able to tell Stan and Kenny apart, therefor I know that I can kill Kenny, if Kenny is camoed up so I can't see him, then by his example I also wouldn't be able to see Stan if he was camoed up like Kenny. So i guess my point is: having friendly names is fine (you still end up shooting friends once in a while), while hostiles names is not (save for when you spot them, etc). Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-08 at 09:32 PM. |

I see it like this. If i catch a glimpse of an enemy and spot him, a damn beacon should not go off on the guy. If i take off after the guy and he out maneuvers me using better tactics gut instinct and tricks to get away. His victory over me was well earned. Spotting people in this game could be a deal breaker for me. BF3 CoD and other tittles have patched great FPS into shitsville by implementing things like this. Turning PS2 into an arcade style rookie approved hand holding trainer is the wrong way to go. To the developers i would suggest you cant make every single player happy-and thats a good thing. |

You won't be able to keep an eye on the minimap and efficiently shoot him at the same time, so it becomes a simple warning mechanic instead of an enhanced targeting system. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-08 at 09:43 PM. |

I'm ok with the current implementation, though perhaps breaking LOS for a few seconds should kill the spot? I'd be ok with that.
Also, as kind of an afterthought; we know they are thinking about making spotting Infil only, or bumping up the effectiveness of the infil spotting vs the other classes. Maybe it could be a cert or utility unlock that allows you to take better advantage of the spotting as well? Last edited by Knightwyvern; 2012-06-08 at 11:16 PM. |
