everything should be reset as if you never even logged in before.
Beta should not be a head start in the game it is purely for testing. I think they will open the cash shop in beta for testing. You shouldn't have to buy items just to see how/if they work properly. even if they just do a few general items in it for 0sc in beta is cool. that way the system is tested. I can't see them actually charging money during the beta... Last edited by Ragefighter; 2012-06-20 at 01:48 AM. |

Tribes ascend did, mech warrior online is going to as well. Open beta is basically release now, with them keeping the beta name on there so that if they have to wipe, or have data loss they can point to that label.
That's just the way the trend has been going. And the companies like to do it cause the money starts coming in sooner. |

I can imagine ranks and points being changed around a lot during beta. They want to find any balance or glitch issues, so they may give say, 30% of the pop full ranks and all certs, while the rest are given half that or none, or other combos, just to see if it all works out ok.
Open beta I could see them leaving the ranks in, because then when the game launches you will have some people at launch with some command certs who can lead groups right away. instead of no one being able to drive anything for the first few hours/day. |

Because Beta will probably be hosted in the US by SOE, and after beta when servers go live in Asia and Europe there will be a few account cloging up the server for nothing. Might not be all that bad, but I'm thinking it's more likely they don't wipe close beta when open beta starts, and after that they wipe all toons completely.

I would be very surprised if every single point in the game (regardless of type) were not completely reset when closed beta is done. This goes for all player data btw...which means I'd pretty much expect a complete general character wipe at that point.
In fact, having been in several betas myself, I can't recall ever having seen it done any other way. It's more or less industry standard, especially for MMO's. Regarding the open beta, I'm not so sure as they could go for a different approach. Given the nature of the game however, I would personally guess they'd go for a complete character wipe and server reset prior to launch. Just makes most sense IMO. /BB Last edited by BillyBob; 2012-06-20 at 05:13 AM. |

I would say the account won't be reset, testing cash shop purchases and all the server side stuff is vital to moving smoothly into release. But characters will be wiped when the server list gets updated to what it will be around release. Probably will scale the beta servers up very slowly to keep population close to max capacity constantly to check stability, balance, etc.

People argue that it's unfair to get an advantage, but then what do you think of ppl that start the game 1month later than others ?
Especially for an open beta this seems rather pointless (certainly for a f2p game) I'm hoping that the beta testers don't get wiped, they spend the time in the game so they should get some sort of reward. |
