Voted no i have never liked quick knife.
With the no holster weapon animation it might look abit funny if you play heavy assault and you MCG dissapear every time you quicknife or select knife. I wish they add more animations to the game it improves the overall look. |

Let us have attachable knives and a quick blunt melee strike. With a rifle it would be the rifle butt. With a knife it could be an off hand punch/push. The quick blunt melee strike should disorient the opponent, jostling his aim just enough so that you could follow up with a real attack (or a teammate could finish him off). The damage of a blunt attack should be minimal unless it was from behind and the enemy was not moving at all (i.e. he was showing no signs of trying to avoid the attack). |

All for this as well. Bayonet thrust/slash and a butt-stroke to the head. Last edited by Firefly; 2012-02-08 at 02:20 PM. |

If a bullet cant kill on one hit because of the armour, how the h*ll should a knofe be able? the physics doesnt add up with force and momentum! maybe only if it was a knife to the face and no helmet was on, that would be so hard to do that it would acctually be agreeable

No to quick knife in any form. No to pistol whipping. Yes to selectable melee weapon.
Instakill quick knife cheapens the game in my opinion. A quick knife that takes a few hits to kill someone or pistol whipping will lead to a Halo style of play. This is where someone will run straight at their opponent while shooting with the intent of whipping/knifing them when they get within range. There's already enough of a "HUR HUR IT'S LIKE HALO" vibe coming from those not up to speed with what Planetside is. Don't need this to add to it. |

Now, just because I am in favor of knives one shotting does not mean I am in favor of Call of Duty knives where you lunge forward and kill anyone within shotgun distance. You should have to get close to an enemy. |

But in a "shooter", I'd like to think "shooting" would be preferable. Making a knife the most powerful weapon in a shooter, even if you have to get right up on your enemy, is just lame. |

Is it not balanced for the shortest range weapon to be the most powerful to make up for the difficulty of closing distance? Sure, we want to focus on shooting. But keeping it about shooting shouldn't be an issue. |

But at least Halo is fun and fairly balanced. Having a "Quick Melee" in any form will make the game alot like Halo. Even if the Melee does 30% damage, its STILL faster to hit melee 3 times than it is to shoot someone to death. (Shotguns/No Scope sniper shots exempted.) Shooters should be about shooting. Older style shooters have melee weapons, but they are backups for when you have no ammo. You should next to never have to melee in a Shooter. Their melee weapons only did the same damage as a single pistol shot. (Which were quite weak.) Unless you had some kind of upgrade/powerup. The Planetside 1 knife system was perfect in my opinion. Silent slash, 20% damage, no auto aim, moderate speed. Or the noisy, slower secondary mode for 33% damage, which could be boosted (33% silent, 50% secondary.) But you still had to EQUIP the knife first and cant harm MAXs with it. |

With an equip knife, if you go for a melee kill you have to commit to it and that makes it very satisfying. With a quick knife what you end up with is a high damage attack which is going to get over used as it requires no planning and commitment at all, just opportunity (aka luck).
I dont mind being killed by someone who has outthought me, I detest being killed because someone got lucky. I also really cherished making knife kills in PS1 because it was something unusual and said to the person I killed "yeah, you dropped the ball there". So a resounding no to quick knife. |

Hence suggestions for a stun system. Not making you useless but alight blurring of screen plus no ability to aim down sights would be enough. Gives you a slight edge over a medium range rifle but if you whack a guy with a shotty you're screwed anyway.

I've seen all kinds of troops from maxes to infiltrators running right past enemy troops, getting them to turn around and chase and sometimes tricking them into accidentally friendly fire their allies. Now imagine if those same units were able to hack and slash their way through the enemy as they were running. I shudder at the thought. |
