I like how the facebook page just exploded with people being against it.
Seriously. You disappointed me today team. The majority of the FPS crowd never liked quick knives. We never asked for them. WE never liked them, we always wanted good ol knives. Just dont try to look at other games and do what they do just because they do it. That wont work, it never did. We gamers want new games, with new fresh ideas. Not just a copy of other stuff. |

Quick knife, or... punching people in the face to get their weapons! :o Also. Handbow with sedation darts for infils (slow enemy reflexes?). :P Oh who am I kidding? xD Great for PD, probably not as much for PS2. Still, shame that damn N64 controller stopped working. Effects should be based on context:
Hit a static dude in the back and you kill him; Hit a mobile dude in the back and he gets a .5 sec prompt allowing him to hit his melee button and counter, at which point both of you have your melee attacks on a 5 sec cooldown (basically preventing blocking people by spamming this). If he doesn't react in the .5 secs, he's down; Hit a static dude in the face, give him the same .5 sec prompt, under the same conditions as above; Hit a mobile dude in the face, give him 1 sec to react, but instead of instakill if he fails to react, knock him down for several seconds. Weapon could be anything, not necesserally a knife - it could depend on the context as well. |

Best not to have everything do varied in damage output, though, I suppose. All variations of melee weaponry could just be personal style. Only difference would be animations, I guess, to further help players decide their style of melee pounce.

knifebattles in ps1 were really fun, i wouldn´t like to loose that feature too.
quickinstadeath is neither fun, nor is it a challange. in a knife fight, both players have a real chance if they react quickly enough. reducing this to just being the one who pressed the emergency button first feels just wrong.
