Most people I run into either have a mid-range or high-range system, or a complete shit store-bought PC that doesn't even have a video card from one or two years ago. In which case, they could just buy a new video card and be fine.

One thing I've noticed, in terms of demographics, is that FPS players generally tend to keep current with technology over traditional MMO players. I know traditional MMO players running on 7-year-old stone age rigs; most FPS players seem to stay within 2 years of current tech or less.
I don't imagine that the demographic of PC FPS players PS2 is aiming for will be affected by strict requirements; the devs are already being pretty lenient by optimizing the game for PCs up to 5 years old, going by some interviews. |

I suspect the real reason why the upgrade cycle might have slowed down, is because games are being made for the consoles primarily. Its the one favour I think they've done for pc gaming, forcing devs to squeeze the most of the hardware because they cant exect their target audience to keep upgrading anymore. |

You can probably get away with using a 9400GT if you are an Nvidia Fanboy or a HD 5670 if your an ATI guy. With at least Dual core and 3/4Gb of RAM.
I use a ATI HD5670 with a Athlon II x4 and 8Gb of RAM and i can run BF3 in Medium/High settings smoothly.

We have only seen the game running on high settings.
Honestly since this is a PC exclusive it's going to be attracting PC gamers which will likely have a PC that can run the game. I'm not worried about this issue honestly.

Well, if they can't make the game run on older PC's they aren't going to sustain a large player base so it's in their best interest to make it viable on lower end machines.
My computer is only 3 years old with a 5800 series card, 8 GB RAM and is a dual core system. No way in hell am I shelling out over $1K to get a new computer if this game doesn't run on a 3 year old computer built for gaming. Everquest 2 repeat incoming? |
