john smedley posted pc's with a dual core processor and a 8800gtx will not be able(atleast not enjoy gameplay) the game.
will this be all over again that most people do not have the requirements to play this game? im fine i got a i7 but most people aint. |

The original Planetside literally taught me how to optimize and upgrade my computer. I didn't even know how to switch out RAM. Now I've swapped out every part of my computer a few times over and OC'd my CPU. I fully expect to use that knowledge for the sequel.

I think the difference is that the original engine was borrowed for PS1 and probably was adapted for the scale of the game, it sounds like the engine for PS2 was built purposely for the scale of PS2 so it's starting performance should be much better than the beginning of PS1.

I believe it was the TB that said that the game will be largely compatible for a wide variety of machines, with a deep video customization. So if they can play BF3 they can play PS2

Are core 2 duo's really the norm for gamers? THey are 4+ years old, i thought the normal upgrade cycle was around 2 years. I switched up my core 2 duo about a year ago to a core 2 quad (best i could do without changing the mobo as well) because windows 7 64 simply does not work properly with core 2 duo cpus. I know I will be looking at a £400 graphics card update when ps2 finally releases cos i dont expect my gtx 285 to handle it, but again. thats like 3 years old.. i thought i was behind the times...

Too many variables to be certain of required specs. CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, shader compatibility all play a role.
If the setup Smedley talked about has performance issues that remove satisfying gameplay we can't be 100% sure which part(s) of the system were inadequate and dragged the rest down. EDIT: Also, it doesn't rule out the possibility of further work on optimizing the game to work on lower-end systems (well, lower-end by comparison). Last edited by Flaropri; 2012-07-19 at 04:45 PM. |

I have had my core 2 quad since i bought this pc around 6 years ago. I still have my 4 gb of DDR2 and had to switch my gtx 240 to a radeon HD 4800 because the old one broke. But I put a SSD drive in my rig and it revitalized it so it still runs great. It can run BF3 at a high without any problems, so I expect to be able to play PS2 since it does not look as graphically demanding BF3 (even if it has to put more things on screen).
