Yep, and to my understanding the JC2MP mod on the other hand is almost fully client side and the server only updates player states to the clients. The server was run on a relatively crappy computer as well and took something like 100mb of memory.

Pretty impressive.
I'd love to see the PS2 devs manage to someday get a 1000 square kilometer map into PS2 or Planetside 3 as well. I'm thinking that the future looks bright for the MMOFPS genre. |

That is some impressive coding put into JC2.
That footage was what everyone was praying they were going to get out of APB (and oh so gloriously didn't), sandbox world, lots of people and something to shoot at. Stick some mission structure, pvp, scoreboards and customisable models and you have an almost-instant MMO. (shopping list, mod the game to allow team and massed objective play, track some common stats k/d/a and build a basic UI to display them and build a robust hot-swap model/clopthing interface) Someone needs to licence this game engine. |

Thats not only impressive but is also exciting as hell. Man kudos to those modders. I'm sure they put an assload of time into that mod. I shoulda picked this game up for $3.74 when it was on the steam sale. FML

I was actually in one of those JC2 multiplayer beta weekends. I'll try and find the screenshot of the closing hour when the entire server asked to be mass teleported to the same point in the sky for a skydive to end the weekend.
During the weekend beta test, server population was polled by admins, and at one point it was 1.3k. My screenshot (if i managed to take it, i was lagging) should be at the end of the day when pop was just over 500 (everyone in the same spot). edit: apparently "Prt Scr" does not save images anywhere when playing JC2, booooo. I went to Jita once. It was cool but you won't find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.... Just kidding, it was pretty cool. Hundreds, possibly thousands of ships, each piloted by a real person coming and going. If you can't find it in Jita, it either doesn't exist in Eve or is so incredibly rare that you better have some free time on your hand.
There really is no MMO like Eve. It's a real living breathing galaxy populated by tens of thousands of real people all trying to make their way in the universe. I was part of Northern Alliance for 8 months before the alternatives of ship spinning or roaming got boring but it was the most amazing 8 months I have ever had in an MMO. You've not gamed till you've been in a 1000 man battleship battle and crashed the local server. |

I thought PS1 vs. PS2 maps were fairly close to same sizes... Last edited by Crator; 2012-08-02 at 08:59 PM. |

Most of the PS1 maps were empty wastelands with the pops centered around whatever base/tower was under attack. Last edited by Sephirex; 2012-08-02 at 09:20 PM. |

and if the pop died in ps2 the same thing would happen that happend in ps1,everything outside of bases become barren. in the first years of ps1 teh big wastelands between abses were not barron, they were battle grounds where outfits and waves of players clashed. it wasnt till after "Aftershock" during the mass exodus did we have population problems. |
