I would not be surprised if PS has better numbers that EQ. EQ is definately not for most people. It's too long and boring for most people. PS on the otherhand is drawing from not only the MMO fans but every FPS fan and first person shooters have the largest single fan base in PC gaming.
Ok so 100,000 was exadgerating. But they most likely do have 10 more servers to test. 20 to 30 thousand is not an unreasonable number to assume for the release of a game like this.

Cyanide, EQ first started achieving these record numbers after they implemented the Bazaar, a zone in which idle PCs could convert themselves into merchant NPCs that sell to other pcs. There were hundreds upon hundreds (~580, last time I was there) of these idle characters on every server! And just because you thought EQ was long and boring doesn't necessarily mean its subscribers did and played less as a result. They thought it was fun, and they played for stretches of time that would make your average FPS player cringe.
For these reasons (no idle characters, average play period shorter), I'd expect the PS servers to average lower online percentages of their total accounts across the board. I'm also betting, for other reasons, PS will have a lower retention rate than MMORPGs. That's not to say it won't be profitable--it will.

Yeah I concur that the server would fireball with 60k or so on it. Just hope I can get on the same one as some of you guys from here. It'd be alot more fun than squading with random beta people that I haven't had the chance to converse with.

last night while they were patching i used
the exe icon to get in, there indeed was lik 8 new servers. HOWEVER. They were all name, like people, Possibly people from the dev team, (no, no dave) but they were all labled (private) so i dunno
