How many people can a server hold?

I find it amazing that so many people can be playing at one time in such a huge world. How many people can play at one time?

Supposedly up to 5K. (That's what I've read anyway.)

They were stress testing Emerald late last night (after the hardware upgrade) and I think they did get around 5k ppl on it. The really sweet thing was that there was no lag in a really crowded sanctuary. It was running smoother than Beryl with way more players.

Wow, are you serious? Beryl starts to crack at 3500 players. Even last night at 3000 players, some of the continents were experiencing some slight lag.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. It's virtually impossible to play for more than a few minutes without getting the boot when Beryl gets around 3400. But I was part of the Emerald test last night, and we managed to cap a base with about 8 or 9 people in the CC room with no lag.

But it's getting so much better it's not funny. I'm certain they can hit about 5000.
