General questions about the workings of Planetside

I just have some general questions (like the topic states ) about Planetside and it's game mechanics.

1.) What do jammer grenades do exactly? I was wondering because they're in the game but I haven't seen one soul using them. Just from the description; they stated that it resets the implant timer and it disables motion detectors. Why do that if I could just destroy the motion detector/Spitfire turret with a grenade? I'm not sure if someone was screwing with me but he said that if you throw it on a hovering mosq/reaver, it'll crash.

2.) Do my spitfire turrets/mines stay in the game after I die? What about after I log out from the game?

3.) I've noticed that when I enter the front of some bases; I hear a funny shrieking tone with a small radar icon at the lower right-hand side of my screen. Sometimes I see an icon that looks like a dot with lines underneath. Can anyone clarify on what this means? (tones / icons)

4.) I'm an infiltrator and I happened to see an enemy stealthier off in the distance (non-zoom). Thing is, he wasn't moving at all but I could see the name above his body. Couldn't see him visually but I could see the name in red. Someone told me that it is related to the #3 question I posted.

5.) Since I am an infiltrator, I was told that if I'm running...someone can spot me easily as if I was right next to them when they're in zoom mode.

6.) Last question and I'll leave ya'll alone. Assuming that an enemy infiltrator is nearby and he's not moving (can't see him at all visually without darklight). I heard that you can find him easily if you scan the area with the crosshair. Was told that when your crosshair passes over him, it'll turn red regardless.

Thanks for your time.

Misc Info

1.) Jammers disable mines, mini turrets, motion sensors?, and any implants a person uses. And no you cant disable jets making them go down in a barreling spin to the doom of earth.

2.) Everything stays in-game but you have a limit to how much u can put down total

3.) eh?

4.) Oh... maybe you had a friendly skeeter nearby. If they go slow enough then they can do a kind of scanner sweep that reveals things like infils. That must be what #3 is.

5.) Sure it could make it easier cause it makes you bigger in thier view, but doesnt make you any more visable when not zoomed.

6.) Hmm... never tried that *Goes check*

3.) You were moving near a motion sensor. The noise/icon are there to alert members from the Empire that placed it of your presence. It's good to carry jammers, because they can disable these pretty quickly and silently.

5.) Before, you could swing your crosshair over an enemy Infiltrator and the reticle would turn red. That was a bug and was fixed by a patch that came out soon after the game went retail.

Hope I could help.

Thank god they fixed that crosshair thing. Also, I would like to sress the importance of not letting a motion detector catch you. That means almost certian death.

1.) Is it possible for skeeters to uncover cloaked infiltrators when it is going slow enough? I noticed that when I was flying one in the VR room, it had an icon at the lower right that looked like a dot with curved lines under it. Does that mean it's in scanning mode? I have noticed that skeeters are great because they don't show up on radar which means you have to spot them visually. Additionally, everyone that is under it while it is slow shows up on friendly radar screens.

2.) Can a motion detector "see" a cloaked infiltrator when I'm moving while crouched?

3.) Once that shriek goes off, can they still see me no matter where I go or can I just move out of it's area of influence?

4.) If I destroy it or disable it, can the enemy still see me for a certain amount of time. If so, how long is the timer?

Thanks again.

EDIT: Thing is, I never hear the shreik/icon when I place my motion sensors. I only hear it or see the radar icon when I'm sneaking around in an enemy base.

I'm concerned because I wish to be a better infiltrator AKA "General Pain in the Ass." Always fun when you assassinate 3 people, run away, come back 10 minutes later and do it again.

The fix on the crosshair thing has brought the death of many friendly stealthers from snipers.

As it is now, a sniper has no way to tell if a stealther is a friend or foe from a distance. You used to be able to tell because your recticle would turn green if it was friendly.

A stealther should never run if their are foes around. If you run anyone (even without zoom) will see you fairly easily. You should either crouch and walk (prefered) or hold down the shift key when you walk. If you run by a motion sensor it will show your name in red to all your enemies, basicly signing your death warrent.

Now if there are slow moving mosquitos (50% throttle or less... the slower the more effecive they are) in the area, they can uncover you even if you are crouch walking. If you see or hear a slow moving enemy mosquito.... stand still until it passes... any movement at all will give you the radar icon (making you visible).

Jammer grenades are a stealther's best friend... i try to keep one on me at all times. Not only can you take out prox mines fairly easy (any decenly mined base will have prox mines at every point of entry) but they are great for knocking out darklight. I like to throw a jammer grenade into a CC room that i am about to hack. That way any boomers or any one guarding the CC with dark light will be screwed. I can then poke my head in the CC without fear that it will be blown away in 5 seconds.

Motion dectors cannot see you when crouch walking, but a slow moving skeeter can.

It revels you for a set amount of time.... best thing to do is to stop and wait for the icon to dissapear, then crouch walk (unless it was a skeeter uncovering you).

They actually do make a sound. If you are defending a base with a bunch of motion sensors... listen closely and you will hear motion sensors going off in the direction where foes are coming. For some reason the sound isn't as loud for friend as it is for foe, but it does make a sound.

Thanks, guys.

That answers all my questions.

Wow. I can't remember the last time that happened on public boards without it turning into a flame fest.
