I'm thinking about making a PC bymyself... I haven't done this kind os stuff, but I know how to change a processor, add RAM etc. And indeed, I did it twice. Is this worth this $300 (Yes, those guys take that much for making it!)
Maxtop CSX-8870K Mid-Tower Case 350Watts Silver Asus A7N8X nForce2 Chipset AMD Athlon XP 3000+/333 FSB 512K Barton 2 pieces each Corsair DDR400 256MB PC-3200 CD-Burner DVD 8x $650 Is this worth it or should I buy a new HP, DELL, COMPAQ, whatever PC? Anyway what else do I need (look up?) (I don't need an ethernet, modem)

I don't know if I would suggest the XP3000/333. AMD prices have been dropping like a rock the last few months. And the XP3000 is prolly about to get phased out. The 3000/400 is out and is only $50 more than the /333 and will prolly be even cheaper once production ramps up.
Your also not going to get much performance difference between a 2600/333 and a 3000/333. But its about a $150 price difference. Also you can generally clock the chips up to 2.2 ghz/200 fsb = XP3000/400. The Asus is a fine board, make sure its a rev 2.0. I prefer the Abit as it unlocks multipliers and gets a higher more stable fsb than Asus. You can check out: http://www.nforcershq.com So taking money you could save on CPU you could buy 2x512's instead of 2x256's. Your performance will be much better.
