VS weapons are underpowered, this is true. However, it is blown way out of proportion. I played VS in the beta, and it is not as bad as most make it out to be. Some VS problems can be made out in stupidity of the wielder. For Example:
I am charging a relativly undefended base with my jackhammer (very short range). On the wall, a little purple people eater pops up and starts harrasing me with his harraser. I figure, he is doing good damage with that splash, and I am not gonna be able to touch him with this (keep in mind, i was pretty much at the wall, close enough for his slow projectiles to hit me, but distant enough for my shotgun-blasts to not be able to do decent damage. When I am at about 50 health, the idiot JUMPS OFF THE WALL. He was destroying me, and he knew it, yet he jumps off his safe pearch right into my range, allowing me to kill him. or I was leaving a tower to head to a nearby base, when look, a nice shiny purple mini-mech comes running over the hill. He immediatly begins to riddle me with anti-infantry rounds, and I am thinking I am dead here. Of course, in normal stupidity, when he runs out of rounds, he proceeds to stand still, allowing me to riddle him with AP rounds from my jackhammer (took a whole 16 shots to take him down, a great precent of them were from when he was standing still), ultimatly destroying him. In conclusion, yes, the guns do need beefing up, but it's not on a level where the game is totaly unplayable when using VS weapons. Please folks, don't let stupidity become the deciding factor in giving a gun a push in a good direction or making it an instant-nuke. |

Ill agree with the point that it is overblown. They are weak, but its not all that weak.
We have the most accurate assualt rifle, therefor it does less dmg. I actually prefer the pulsar to the cycler or guass at range, becuase i can run and gun at 4x zoom ans consistantly hit the target. The Lancer. Wow. Just...wow. 3 hits to kill any grunt, 5-7 for a max. Thats amazing, as the other empires would have to reload before killing infantry, and only the TR (big surprise) can kill a max with one clip. Our weapons switch between normal and AP in less then a second. If you dont see the use of this (5 rounds of ap, then 5 rounds of normal will kill reinforced fairly quickly) then you shouldnt bother. Magrider. Hey, you dont even need a gunner. Theres a fairly useful AI cannon for the drivers use, and if all else fails its a fucking battering ram. Can kill 20 people without shooting or repairing, no other tanks can do this as effectivly as the magrider. Hey guys...we dont need to go across those insanly mined bridges. Thresher and magrider can cross almost any river/lake in the game. Your a max and need to get across without acting as a mine sweeper? Have a friendly deliverer head strait across the lake at 60% speed and just walk on the roof. It works, ive done it with 2 maxes on my roof. Now if you try to go toe to toe with cycler/guass/jackhammer up close, your either unlucky, cloaked, or stupid. Still, common pool weapons will work quite well. Sweepers take down jackhammers quite often, anything in special assualt works amazingly well against most targets (decimator not for infantry...but you knew that). Play with intelligence, with other squads, and you wont notice any "underpowered" stuff for awhile. |

I'm a diehard Vanu player and I know someone will come around to flame me any minute, but I got to agree. Vanu weapons are very specific in what they do well and at what range. Once you figure this out and learn to use the right weapon for the right occasion the less you'll find yourself outclassed.
If the guy has a Jackhammer then simply maintain your distance and your Pulsar fire will have no problems bringing him down. Some idiots of course will claim you're chicken for not fighting on their terms, but who cares. You played smart and beat them. Of course indooors the Pulsar isn't going to be your best friend. A Lasher, Sweeper, Thumper or Rocklet rifle will though. If you know there's enemy in the base, for god sakes grab something that will work. Even low level guys have access to grenades. Grab some Plasma nades and start chucking them down the hallways. You may not kill the guy , but you'll damage them enough that your buddy behind you will. As a Vanu player it just doesn't make sense to fight the enemy on their terms. Hell, that logic goes for every empire. Of course sometimes your forced to, but don't make a habit of it. |

Really, from the sound of things, ours teammates just have to learn to not play like they have a Chaingun when using a Pulsar, or like they are firing a BFG when packing a Lasher. |
