Wow this is a tough one for me. I have been the infil commander and it works very well. As long as ppl follow orders well. As an infil there are many times when you need all your concentration to complete objectives. If your squad believes in you and does what you say, you can use infil to pave the way to next base. On emerald my character has infil/ams/advhack/sunderer/engi - surge/aa. Plenty of ppl wanna fight, fewer wanna support. Even if you need to type alot. You can and usually be pretty safe. You can use the com uplink safely to plan future moves. But downside is, if your squad is having issues killing you gotta pick up the slack. Not one of the easiest things to do as an infil cuz you can only carry so much shit. If you can cope with that then you can do quite abit.
I started out as a pilot commanding in beta it's okay but better if you are doing more of a aerial squad and a relitivelty safe place to command from. I don't have much experiance as a gunner commander. But anytime you can sit shotgun is a good time to command. Lately i've been led by a MAX. A rather notoious one at that. MAX units don't really "need" anyone to get around. But they do need you to be able to. When my CO calls to move to way point. You gotta go. After a few warnings about priorities if you are not where you need to be or on the way. You are dismissed. So if your commander plays mostly MAX and you are not. Your jod is to keep your yor MAXs healthy and happy. Basic engi is a must for any reinforced armor. Medic is a plus and advmedic is a whole new game. I think better suited for CC defense rather than assault. But it really comes down to the MAX commanders style of play. My commander is an-in-your-face-all-the-time type of player. So I gotta be quick to move and almost a mind reader since it's all move move move all the time. Last edited by Streamline; 2003-06-21 at 02:12 PM. |

I think Galaxy pilot's make the best commanders. It is still really difficult to find a good galaxy pilot (and alot of people leave your squad if you don't have some sort of transpot - besides HART). Once you have transportation, filling out the rest of your squad is easy.

I say regular reinforced. If you do get found out, you can still put up hella fight, and you can help your guys out by gunning for them in their rides. If you can't fight, you're a liability to your squad imo. You can always command from the respawn select screen.
Although like civ, gal and sunderer's are a good place if you don't have much BR.
