Problem

I have a problem guys, i go link dead very frequently, like every 15 min atleast. I dont think its my network being slow, usually my ping in other games is no more than 100, and thats as much as it ever has been. I think its because my computer is slow. My setup is....
Intel P4 2.53 ghz
512 mb ram
80 gig hard drive
intel 64 mb extreme graphics card
comcast cable connection
i am using a router that is connected to 1 other computer

so whats the problem, i go ld alot, i always have to shut down ps then start it up again, today i went ld more than usual and it wasnt on a very populated continent i know i need more ram, and i am planning on buying a new graphics card,

I'm runing ps on a 950 duron purely out of nececity. My good computer is a AMD 2600+ with 768MB ram and a stolen GeForce FX card that has 128MB ram on it. Unfortuneately, my good computer has magaged to fry itself for the third time and I'm waiting for it to get repaired.

I useualy got aroud 40FPS in large outdoor areas with a lot of trees(IE: Hossin), droping to about 15-25 durring the Lasher-zerg period imediately after the buff.

Neon Apocalypse, I had your same problem for a long time. You need to do 1 of 2 things.

Plan A) The best way: Play around with different security settings on your router until the problem goes away. I've heard it mentioned that Denial of Service filtering may be the problem.

Plan B) The quick and dirty: Turn off firewall protection for your PS computer by seting up a DMZ on your router. Check the adv. settings. This is what I have, and I get these REALY annoying windows messenger popups from internet advertisers. I dont recomend it unless you cant get Plan A to work.

But it depends what type of RAM you get. there is Normal SD RAM which is the older stuff on Pentium 3's and AMD Athlons. And the other is DDR which is much faster on AMD Bartons and Pentium 4's

Hey Neon

One thing you may want to do is update the firmware on your router.

This is a problem that's been around sense beta for linksys routers and some others.

This is the official site page that ahs the data on routers and such, it should help you out

Thanks guys, ill try all of this. I thought it was my computer that did this. I think ill still buy some upgrades for better performance. tHanx. Uh one more thing, Where do i adjust these settings, i checked the network options and didnt find anything u describe. ALso where do i get the firmware for the router. I have another comp connected to router and i think its in charge of it since the software was installed there.

There has been a few problems from the last "unpatch" of performance enhancements. Best ways that I have found is to:

1) up your page file to over 3 gig. (ps for some reason wants 3 gig or it try's to resize it.)

2) there is a couple of settings in the machine.ini that helps out alot.....Look for a line with something like background thread. This will alow ps to use hyperthreading if you set it to true.(if you have a processor that uses it). There is also another setting there...something like texture caching...this should be 1/2 your video ram.

3) just a little added performance alt+tab and change the process priority to high.

these have helped because I have had some framerate problem and watching ps hit the hard disk constantly even though I have 1gb of ram.

You probably gotta go download it form the site of whoever makes your router Neon.

Just put it somewhere on your HDD then install away!
