Second Lieutenant
|
Question. I've put in a second RAM stick into my machine (at long last!) and I'm now running at 1 gig of PC2100 DDR. Needless to say PS is running like molten sex compared to how it was previously.
However... one thing I want to make sure. I'm running 2x512 sticks. Ergo, dual-channel mode is enabled automatically, yes? (Intel i845 mobo, fairly recent BIOS.) Do I need to fiddle with it any to really get the memory bandwidth flowing? Thanks guys. |

Check your motherboards website. You probably shouldnt run a single and dual channel dimm on the same motherboard. Your motherboard doesn't wanna run in 2 modes at the same time so everything passing through it is bumping uglies. Also you might need to swap slots if they are both together. Most motherboards require 1 dimm in slot 1 and the other in slot 3 for dual channel. Just check your motheboard website and throw away some pc2100 and get something that will work better with that 800mhz fsb u have. I just bought a gig of corsair pc3700 for my amd rig for like 260 bux. TwinX 466mhz dual channel ddr. Pretty sweet buy. I got some single channel pc2100 running for cheap if you wanna buy some
