Knife throwing is impossible, but going by the description, knifes would penetrate armor with substantial force, such as running into somebody. However, considering that bayonets are rarely used now, its a bad idea. Merely a suggestion for a topic. I do want to know more about the knives, because melee weapons are always nice, merely because of the coolness. If people join the TR because of cool colors, I will stab people because of coolness. Slitting throats would not be un-useful for infiltrators, like the shocklance in T2, so much fun, to kill snipers with that..

I think the second mode for knives is just a stronger attack, isn't it?

A knife hits with a force 10x times the force of a bullit. first the steel hits then the force of the hand following threw.

plus since everyone is going to have at least a ceramice plate beneth s bullet proof vest, slashing would be useless only a good stab would penetrate most armor(i mean come on its the future the knifes point should be an atom thick), and the secondary attack should be attacking with a running start like a bayonet charge, it would at least be funny.

Knives shmives. As an engineer I just want to know if i can stick a grenade, ACE, or REK in my knife holster. Then it might be useful. Heh. AT least Rogue has confirmed that an ACE or REK will fit in a pistol holster. At least that is something.

Use a knife and ya get a good dealing of damage. But I dunno whether its lethal considering that they included a secondary mode inless they expected ones to use the secondary mode only if hitting in the back wasn't a viable option or the target is in heavier armor then the light stuff.

However the secondary mode from what I gathered is simply applying energy to the knife when used and its draw backs are that it makes alot of noise due to the energy use. BTW the noise thing is for sure, I didn't just make that up. Its possible that description was only for the Vanu knife. Not sure.

Dio your never going to live down Hamma drowning in that lake are you? As the knife thing goes primary would probably be just a quick slash or a hack then the secondary would be a slower forcefull stab or jab that does more damage.
the last smiley is two vanu fighting over whos' is bigger

Heres the quote from the PSI site's unofficial faq where I got that info.

Do melee weapons (knives) have secondary modes?
Yes. All empire specific melee weapons have secondary modes of various types.

Are there any drawbacks to using the secondary mode of a knife?
Yes. When secondary mode is activated, the knives generate noise. This is not the best way to sneak up behind someone.
So from that I don't think its a Vanu only disadvantage. However I seem to recall also, maybe wrong about this one, that in secondary mode your swing is slower as well.

the first thing that you traiin in in the british army is use of the bayonet-mainly for aggression etc but also it is used for survival-the bayonet and sheath can be used for a great no. of things such as wire cutters or reflective mirrors

yes, they are good for wire cutters and such, but reflective mirrors is useless as the armor has a renewable energy source, and apparently sends a signal to NC high command showing them where they are. Also, if the knife blade was atome thin (like the ones being developed now with lasers) it would cut through anything.
