Problem with bailing out of air vehicles

Recently (or not so recently) I've been having trouble bailing out of my planes. I can understand it in a zerg situation, but in a small fight or even a lone AA max that has knocked me out, I can't drop when I want to. This is extremely frustrating when I get the missile lock, know its over and hotdrop before my plane is even at half damage. By the time i get out (if i get out) the plane has exploded and most of the time killed me. Is this is a bug or something, because it needs fixing.

Dunno, I've found the best way to be sure you get your ass out of an aircraft is to hit '0' and press and HOLD alt-g. Better guarantees your ass will land within' the enemies safely :}
