If you have a friend that plays already, you can pick up the basics in no time. The game is so deep, that you are the one who decides how repetitive it gets. (ex: if all you do is xp whore then it will get boring. unless you are a whore. ) Once you get into parties and go on missions and such, the game slowly takes priority over all other games. I'm having a blast playing it ATM. I recommend it.

I'm going to check out WoW because SG is planning on having a portal in it. But MMORPG's don't do anything for me and I have never played any of them, to tell the truth.

Having said that, I'd kill to get in the City of Heroes beta and definitely plan on spending some time with that when it hits retail.

Earth and Beyond was cool when I played. The populations have dwindled, and now most of the missions are for high level players, so if you used to have an account and were somewhere around mid-range, it's going to be hard to pick back up.

2. If you found Planetside boring because of it's repitition you'd absolutely hate DAoC, EQ, FFXI or any other game that has an "autoattack" command. Possibly if you were to play a caster class but even then it gets very repetitive.

It's a failure in the sense that it's boring and practically pointless for the vast majority of players. The selling point of the Starwars universe is the Jedi and the Force, and 95% + of the SW:G population will never get to try it. What's left over is SimLife: Mineral Farmer.

FFXI is a beautiful game, but it has a horrid interface... entirely keyboard-based, not even a basic mouse-look. The job system is interesting too. It's possible to get 1 character to max level on all 15 job classes.

Blizzard's past track record and inexperience where MMO games are concerned is about all. Which, if I might add, is more to go on than any of the people who touch themselves at night thinking about playing a Orc.
No game in the history of computer games has ever been perfect on launch, so that point is rather moot. I play WC3: TFT and follow the news sites, so I have a good grasp of what's happening with the game. Inexperience doesn't mean incompetence. All Blizzard has done is take the parts that work from MMO's that have been out for a while and throw in Warcraft's amazing stylistic feel.
