Yeah...it makes the Range Magnifier implant kind of stupid at times...sure, you can see 12x zoom, but the engine won't render the troops out there. And in a large battle, your crosshairs will turn red but you can't see the enemy to judge direction of movement.
The prone position thing has been discussed and would require too much animation and engine recoding to be worth the effort when there are so many other things that would appeal to a wider player base (Capitols, new base layouts, OBO, Campaigns, etc.). I agree that it'd be cool, but I doubt severely that it will ever happen.
The only thing that needs to be fixed about sniping is the fact that it's possible to snipe from the top of a hill where it's impossible to be hit by return fire. If you can hit someone, you should be able to be hit in return (especially if the person is using the same weapon as you), and that's not always the case.
Everything else about it (again, minus the silly range problems and invulnerable snipers) seems to work really, really well...and yes, I like the no insta-kill on regular grunts even though my two primary characters are both snipers.
