Ok...just to settle this part once and for all...
The Devs have said on *more than one* occasion that there was a concious decision to leave out prone mode back when they were designing the PS engine. They had to make a choice to include it or not and they felt that as much as it slowed down gameplay for a relatively minor boost in tactics that it was not worth it.
Since they knew that when they made their choice, putting in a prone mode would be work along the lines of redoing the maps for different base layouts as they have to go into the core workings of the engine and add this in (without breaking anything else...not something they've had a real penchant for lately). That's to say nothing about the various animations they'd have to do to support that.
It doesn't add THAT much to the game in comparison to the work involved. When we have a viable Core Comat, a smooth main game, no more grievous weapons imbalance, Outfit Base Ownership, new Capitol bases, redesigned "normal" bases, a Space Combat Expansion, and a Naval Expansion....THEN, *MAYBE* the prone mode would be a project worth working on....so bring this topic back up in about 2006 or 2007 (If PS is still around).
Can we let the prone discussion die now? We have not only beat the dead horse...we've dismembered it, slathered ourselves in its blood, eaten it and performed unwholesome acts on the corpse. Let the damned thing rest!
