it's old Hacker talk from WAYYYY Back in the Day when 1337 wasn't spoken by every 3 year old.

It was s tupid code meaning that you had gained Root access to a system... So your working a hack on one term, chatting with buds on another you get root you go WOOT!

Later it was an EQism for Wonderful Loot. or Woot.

Regardless it's a way of expressing excitment over an event.

(And BTW people who use woot on forums are fine, but people who say it as Wet ware need to be stomped!)

also ... yeah, we'll see about this. i'm still annoyed with the vanu's version - but i'll admit, i layed down some ownage with a thresher last night, taking out two vanguards and damaging (badly) five... but i blame the speed and maneuverability.
