Pogues appears to be more contemporary rock based, as Flogging Molly is very clearly punk. Yes, both are of the irish gimmick, but it's two very different styles of music. Also, The Pogues seem to write their own music, as opposed to Flogging Molly using traditional Irish songs.

Have you heard The Pogues? They certainly mellowed with later albums, and have always allowed a few slower songs, but listen to something like If I Should Fall From Grace With God and tell me that Flogging Molly isn't just cribbing something that another band was doing 15 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I still dig Flogging Molly, but then again I was majorly bummed when The Pogues called it quits a few years ago.

The Pogues were very much considered punk, when punk actually meant something.

Also, ControlledBurn, from what I can find Flogging Molly writes their own songs as well. Maybe a couple songs on each album not written by them, but everything else is. If you want to see something funny just type Flogging Molly Pogues into Google and see how many people make the comparison.

Frag, I've only been to Reading in 2000. We spent the weekend, camped out and smelled like arse when we got home, but we had a ball.

Why the hell would 50 cent go? He doesn't exactly "fit the bill".... but oh well. I'm sure if I went, I'd have a great time. I got my ass kicked in the Limp Bizkit mosh pit the last time I was there

Apparently last year Less Than Jake got bottled off the stage at either Reading or Leeds - so if they get bottled off, i can only imagine what they'll do to 50 Cent. Then again, he'll probably shoot everyone.

Yeah seriously. I heard he just threw a hissy fit at some concert recently, everyone was booing him. He said something like, "I don't feel the love!", then threw his microphone and stormed off stage.

At least Divina McCall won't be there.

I've heard the Pogues, but mostly their later stuff, which is why I used the word "appear" in what I wrote. Their newer stuff certainly wasn't punk in any form I've ever heard. Bands do change though, and I've not heard their older stuff, so I'll take your word that they were once a good irish punk band.
