Muse have been on MTV. Muse played at one of MTV's concerts. Do I still like Muse? Yes. The reason why? Because Muse is a band that is always original. I've been an avid fan of Muse ever since their concert at Le Zenith. How dare you question my loyalty to Muse? You've made a wrong assumption with that quote Heavy. Admit it. A very wrong assumption, which I take the upmost offence at. EDIT: Don't talk to me about originality. You like Slipknot and Greenday. Be gone. Last edited by Hezzy; 2004-09-19 at 11:35 AM. |

i listen to music that works for my mood.
i don't listen to music that falls into a genre because i believe that i personally fit into that societal slot. basically, i think that it's just people's pretension and horribly strong desparation to set themselves apart from others and elevate their own status in the minds of their blindest friends taking hold when someone starts bashing a form of music because it's not one thing or too much of another. It's music. It's not meant to please everyone, it's meant to please the people who like it. Some people bitch about pop punk because they think the bands "sold out" or "changed for an image." Well, go fuck yourselves. They evolved and you didn't, so find a band that suits you and enjoy their music instead. The band's aren't playing for YOU they're playing for the people who enjoy them and come to see their music. They're not going to "revert back to the old ways" just to make you feel all tingly inside just like when you bought their first CD. I will admit that there's a lot of generic shit coming out, but if you listen closely to the lyrics it's not always that generic. Mostly it's just the sound that seems the same, and the undertone of the lyrics that are applied. But, in reality, lyrically all songs are very different and though they convey a similar feeling they say it in a different fashion. Just like, someone could have a similar artistic style as VanGoh, and not ever convey the same message/emotions he did with his art. It may look sorta the same, but in reality, it's worlds apart. Don't rip on bands for sounding alike, they sound that way because they're playing to an audience that likes and chooses that sound. Rip on bands for not writing their own music. THOSE are the ones who need to be shot down. Bands whose only talent lies in their ability to do nothing more than grin and show off their bodies for the camera, lip sync, and dance like they have a bunch of bugs in their ass. I will admit, it can be frustrating when you listen to one band, put in another CD by a totally other band, and you think to yourself: "i thought i changed the CD!" But, that's just the way the industry works. You find a niche and you sit in it. That is, if you want to stay alive. THe music industry is vicious and certainly not matriarchal. It does not baby the stragglers and try to nurture them to health amongst the greater herd. It says, fuck off, you lose. Then they die. Plus, the proliferation of bands in one genre is going to cause some overlap. It happens. What you do is choose a band with a sound and personality that fits you. That's why a lot of these bands end up making it. They're personality and sound just seems to hit a chord with some people (pun seriously not intended, i hate puns). Let's be serious, do you see bands like Green Day and Taking Back Sunday all over the new like Britney Spears and like Ricki Martin once was? No. Because they don't play for everyone to like them, they perform to entertain the audience they know their music is specifically designed for. Then again, it's not my place to tell anyone to stop bitching, but i can certainly lay down some logic for you before you start saying: "FUCK THAT BAND, MAN! THEY'RE FUCKING JUST LIKE ALL THEM OTHER BANDS OVER THERE, MAN!" But, like i said, i can't make you see it my way, i can just hope you have enough sense to be able to understand the way this system works. If you don't like their stuff, don't buy their CD. But, don't bash their sound because they're something that you thing they should be something else. THey are what they are. Pop-punk is pop-punk. And it is, in fact, a sound, NOT because they got on MTV, for anyone who thinks that. Poppy music has that: I'M NOT A LOATHESOME HATEFUL PERSON overtone to it. It's more based on stuff that doesn't make us think about killing our neighbor/girlfriend/teacher/mail man. Anyways, balloons and caterpillars for all.

hey man, if that's what you like, then that's what you like Blink and NFG have space in my esteemed MUSIC folder. i listen to a lot of shit like that. it sounds good to me when i'm in a certain mood. but then, i also listen to a lot of rap and shit like that, too. here's what's currently on the playlist: Everclear, Weezer, Foo Fighters, Authority Zero tomorrow it may be Snoop, Dre, Trillville, Chingy, Lil' John, Usher, Luda, and Eminem. the way i see it, listen to what you like and try to be open minded about what other people are into. If you don't like a certain brand of music, well, you're entitled to your opinion. i dunno, just be open minded. not everyone thinks like you.
