PS is very ping tolerant. We all were quite amazed during beta when east coast US players had the same experience as west coast US (which also happen to be where the beta servers were located in San Diago, CA).
With so many players on the field, the conventional hit detection had to be greatly simplified compared to other multi-player fps's around at that time. In games such as Tribes, ping and server proximity to compeating teams were often a point of contention as it noticable affected the game play. Not so with PS - any form of broadband seems to be sufficient and all 3 server's gameplay is reasonable similar despite the client location.
