How about this:
Athlon 1.0ghz 256mb PC2100 Crucial Radeon 9000pro Win98SE 30GB Maxtor 5400rpm And some opinion: lets say I had US$150-$200 to spend on upgrading for the release of PS, what should my priorities be and how high should I go? and if I had unlimited funds (well, in reason, I guess $500) what should my priorities be? Thanks in advance! PS - I just bought 256 more of ram, but its lameass K-Byte, and I think it actually *slowed* my comp down, so I'm returning it today. I heard somewhere that you should always match your ram sticks for best performance, like crucial with crucial, etc. Truth? |

It will run it but this game is more than likely going to strain it quite a bit in big battles. 128mb cards might have problems in large battles as well but we don't know for sure. Processor is a big neccesity though. 1ghz meets the minimum but I suggest getting something faster than that.

Yeah, I figured the cpu was the main bottleneck. AMD's aren't too pricey, either, as long as I'm not looking at the absolute top-of-the-line. I figure XP2000+ or XP2100+ would be enough. I'm comfortable turning some settings down and playing at a smooth 30-40fps. We'll just have to wait and see.
Do you think upgrading the HD and OS would be a benefit? I'm starting to fill up my 30gigs anyway and a lot of the settings are from the old comp that i dug it out of, so i think that might be holding me back, too. And upgrading from 5400rpm to 7200rpm is pretty significant, too, right? |

The OS and HD are also something you might want to look at upgrading but it depends on how much you want to spend. For a HD get a Western Digital with the 8mb cache. 80gb/100/120 and I think 200gb all have 8mb cache. Get XP Pro for your OS if you want to upgrade that. You can get it some places for like $150. www.infotechnow.com has it for $139.

There isn't a gigantic difference but XP Pro is designed more for people that need to squeeze every last drop of performance out of their system. Minor differences between home and pro but I find XP pro more stable for gaming.
