From the Strategy Informer article,
Matt, If you are reading this I think you should take a page from the game "City of Villians", the 'guilds' (i forgot CoV term but yea) could build their own lairs as a hangout place/raid organization. There also was another important function, storing artifacts, these items that contained powerful "buffs". There would be fights for these artifacts and other rival clans would launch attacks on other liars to steal these artifacts (with a fair time of notice) I loved how it worked and i think it would make a great implementation into planetside. There could also be these ancient auraxian artifacts, or it could just be for the outfit's banked resources. To prevent one mega zergfit from just overrunning a base there could be caps on battle size. 1.5attackers per defender? Carry or sabatoge: to expand on the idea, you have the choice of carrying a % of it out, or sabotaging them, and destroying a much larger % This could satisfy the outfit battle "instanced combat" some people may like while having an actual purpose in the game, instead of something tacked on. Your guys thoughts? Feel free to change around my idea to what you guys think would be best for the game. EDIT: I dont need any royalties, feel free to implement this kickass idea into the game |

While i really like the idea, i think the Devs are trying to keep combat between the factions - not between just outfits fighting for something in an instanced zone.
I think its cool though, and i'd really like to see some sort of competition between outfits on the same empire, and other empires. |

Liked City of villians bases.
PS2 should have outfit bases but they should remain as sancuary/lobby type of thing. A place to chill/take a break. Maybe have video monitors flashing across battlefields. Terminals for skill/certs/implants. As a outfit increases perhaps they get all these cool little features. Maybe even at the end a vehicale spawn pad that drops you and the vehicle you picked like a drop pod somewhere. With a 2 hour cooldown. And place for outfit members to have meetings I guess. Each Outfit base could be an orbital station. Plenty of room in space. |

except id prefer if it wasnt santuary style and was out in the battlefield, just off to the side/out of the way where they could be attacked but only by people meaning to do them harm. outfit points could go to defenses/cool things to add to the chill rooms(arcades, virtual reality rooms, etc) obviously most of it would be added in the future cause a good portion is fluff

However they did mention space battles. If they must be in combat it could go like this. Every 30 hours(or whenever it unlocks) the empires battle in space for special benifits. The control points are the outfit orbital station(outfithouses) Each outfit station depending on what they have or unlocked increase its capture value. The one with the most capture value wins and the space battle becomes locked. The winning empire receives special bonuses. This would be a neat thing I believe. It should remain as something to do every now and then as it unlocks and not deviate from the main battle. How the space battlefield would be set up though would take some thought. It could be 3 sections with say a limited number of outfit houses. For the sake of the example lets say 10 per empire (real would prob have more) The 10 selected outfit houses would be randomized. So not every outfit house would be selected but would take turns. The system will try to match outfit capture values to be equal with the other factions, meaning one empire won't be decked out with max outfit stations while they other has low levels with little defences. And also must be question weather the locations are always permanent or change within the sector. The main problem I see for this is which outfit houses would be selected for the space battle. But now that I think about it, it could go like this. The hour before the space battle opens, all players are given an option to select and vote for the 10 outfits to be seleced. Outfits would that a generally succesfull would recieve the most votes. However once a outfit has participated in the space battle, they must wait 1 or 2 more space battles to be selected agian to prevent always being selected. The problem with this is an outfit with large number of players would usually gurantee its position when avalible to be voted. The outfit selection system would still need lots of work |

Ok, so you don't want combat. Thats cool, I still think CoV handled base design very well.
For people that dont know, the CoV style was every time someone in your "outfit" did something IE finished a mission, got a kill ETC the outfit gained points. With these points the outfit leader (or someone who had special permission) could build and design the hangout, buying everything from statues, chairs almost to the point of the sims. Even if there is no combat, the system worked in the last one, and it worked well. @bags: Notice the parentheses around instanced combat. Its not truely instanced. I couldn't think of a better word to describe it. Cute pony by the way. |

I really like the idea of inter-outfit rivalries between the empires which would obviously turn into combat, almost like a gang war. However, I'm with Bags in that I think PS2 should avoid "instances" as much as possible. I really think it could be implemented into the actual continents we fight on. As some protection, you could always do things like give them a capitol shield dome thingy, but I think they really should be on the continents instead of their own "instance".
