Outfit Orbital Battle


I posted this in another thread and part of this idea has appeared before but I decided to give it its own thread for deepr discussion on the mechanics and how it would work. Warning, wall of text crits hard.

The jist is, Outfits have orbital space stations(outfit houses) that every week they appear in a space battlefield in which the 3 empires fight over for special benifits and bragging rights.



To start off Outfits would have Orbital Stations as their "Outfit House". Here they would have multiple features such as display monitors showing current battles. Terminals for implants/skills and such. A general meeting area/break room from battles. And a nifty feature, a vehicale spawn pad that can spawn a vehicle and laucnh it like a drop pod onto the planet. Cooldown of 2 hours(or more) and must be launched further away from a sphere of influence than a normal droppod. Now the OOS (Outfit Orbital Stations) would have these as unlockable features as the outfit progress. Similar to this would be features such as defencsive and offensive utilities to the station itself for space battles. An example of the space battles is explained below. Note just because your outfits OOS is picked doesn't mean only your outfit can spawn there or be in the battlefield. It is simply a control point your entire empire may use/defend/recap



Space battles are timed events for control of OOS's instead of territories. Similar to the caves in planetside1, space battles are only open every X time. 30 hours, 2 days, 1 week, what have you. After unlock the event remains open for 1 or 2 hours. The control points or objectives is to cap enemy OOS's. In this example it would be 3 sections next to each other. Each OOS's would be worth points based on what features it has and positioning. Some OOS will be less value than others adding to tactical targets. The value is of course based on features but some areas of the sector will have benifits to OOS's based on positioning. Such as the following. The further the OOS is from the front lines the more value it is. Some will randomly be worth more similar to how some rescources are more valueable. This could be tied into effects and benifits or is just random so there are tactical choices. The main problem I see with this set up is the chaotic battles that would take place being next to two enemys. Commanders would really need to take charge to have coordinated assualts and it would be very, very easy for 2 empires to gang up on 1.



For how the OOS's are choose we will just use this as an example. We will say there are 10 OOS's for each faction. The main difficulty of this how they will be chosen. The main goal is to make sure the same outfits are not picked every time and that all 3 empires OOS's are of equal strength meaning one empire wont have maxed feature outfits while another got all low levels. Outfits to participate would fall under two selection systems I can think of. The first would be randomly picked outfits. The system would select 10 random outfits and make sure they are as equal in there strength as the other empires as it can be. So say it picked 4 levle ones, 3 level twos, and 3 level four OOS's. After being picked the outfits cannot be selected again until 1 or more space battles have taken place. So there is a cooldown on outfits OOS's being in the battle. One tweak would be either the best 5 outfits for the week or locked duration would automatically be in the selection for the space battle provided they weren't in the recent one. This would support outfits to perform better so they are selected.

The other option is an hour or whatever time before the event players are given the option to vote for which outfits to participate. Of course recent outfits would not be valid to participate. The problem with this is favoritism. And outfits with large numbers easy secure themselves. One way to help those low number outfits would be 2 slots are saved for the outfits with the least amount of participation meaning eventually those that are small or not picked often will always make an appearnce.



On also how many players may be in the battlefield, it would either be unlimited or a set amount. If it was a set amount the outfits who have their OOS participating will always have first rights and VIP positions for the battlefield. The number though would have to be quite large to make sure everysingle outfit member could join and acutally may just be a bad idea because of that.



The benifits from this could range to a huge variety of things. Besides bragging rights it could be very small benifits or very large. Would need discussion
