Free weekend of Nuclear Dawn (Steam).

if you've been reading you'd know that...

PS2 will be nothing like ND.

that kind of feature would be cool, but nothing for release.

i could imagine outfit bases to work like this. nice way to set up very customizable outfit bases with automated defences, or maybe not ai but manned defenses.
and it would expand the gameplay to have some rts elements to attract even more players.

when the outfit base is attacked, the commander could even manage mission assignments for his outfit mates rts-style. would make a great "minigame"
maybe some time in the 3 year plan?

Re: FPS & RTS in PlanetSide 2: Video

There have been several games like ND. Natural Selection and Savage 1,2. The concept of hybrid FPS/RTS is cool but has problems based on my experience playing. For one there isn't enough Commander slots available generally. Even if they split up the workload somehow to try to add more slots there probably would not be enough people allowed to be Commander in PS2 to satisfy the masses.

You also risk making playing Commander kind of boring when they can't control any units only build stuff. Though this actually gives me a really cool idea of how they could add drone guards to bases under your factions control. Instead of making them AI driven bots they could be controlled remotely by a Commander player. Which would make them much smarter an harder to glitch or farm and help make back hacking more difficult.

Anyway we know this type of thing is probably not going to be in at launch. Would be one of the cooler ideas for the future though. I would take it over BFR's.

I remember savage. I would love for my CO to just select me *insert some indication I'm selected* and point me to where they need me or what to do, though I'd appreciate if squads and platoons, even lone wolves could link up with a commander already commanding multiple platoons. Kind of like volunteering to be lead, not some jack-ass randomly picking out other jack-asses that won't follow orders. They need to know who's willing to listen.
