At the end; “We think that 'Free to Play, Your Way' is our future. Giving players choices is the theme of how we’re moving forward as a company, which means greater flexibility for our player base,' concluded Smedley. |

It's a bit of a gamble. It's quite obvious going FtP with MMORPGs is very profitable. A FtP MMOFPS game has never yet existed, so we'll have to see how it works out. Hopefully it works well, while still maintaining a balanced game.

SOE will have an optional sub for PS2, they do in all their F2P titles, people will pay for it and people will pay for other thing for sure. Been F2P, people would have to be pretty pants on head not to give it a go atleast, even if its SOE. While World of tanks and global agenda are by no means massive in comparison to PS or PS2, they opperate as skill based F2P MMO's, GA..well...its hi res...but WOT is pretty profitible. |

I hope there is some barrier for entry because otherwise the game will have the worst community ever and I wont want to play it. I don't want it to be pay to win, I don't paying for like TF2 hats or whatever and I don't want it to be pay to train skills faster.

We'll just have to wait and see... They said they have a nice anti-cheat program and other methods to prevent cheating... That's was the major concern over F2P and it is warranted since we had cheating issues in PS1 when F2P was allowed...

While this isn't the best analogy, but SWTOR requires you to put in billing info to varify your age (I know it's a sub-based anyways, but you cant even take use of the "free" month without putting in billing info).
This has been suggested for APB as well and always shut down (even by me). The thing just is that having to put in your CC details to a game you've never played isnt probably an attractive choice for many. It would however have the positive side that age limits could to some point be controlled as well as making chronic cheater's life much much harder. Don't think it will happen though..

There sorta isnt..
Some asian games require like your drivers license and stuff like that, but I cant see how it can work when countries have so different ID systems and social security numbers arnt the same. Not that I'd even want Sony to have any of that from me in case they get hacked again

I know, I've actually done quite a bit of searching for a company that does something like that... Can't find anything.... Makes me want to create my own company with a "Fort Knox" mindset towards account management and security. Offer the service to any online service provider that wants to have the highest level of security for their accounts!
I could make money, right? |
