If its instakill, definitely not. If its not instakill I could be ok with it.
My preference, if there must be a quick melee, would be swinging the weapon, like how Halo does it, for something like 33-50% damage tops. It'd be a hell of lot more sensible to bash someone with the large blunt object you are carrying than to fumble for a knife. Definitely no instakill though. Really hate that in modern shooters. Shoot someone in the face? Hurts, but doesn't kill them. Stab them in the toe? Instant death. Last edited by CutterJohn; 2012-02-07 at 01:54 PM. |

I want to be sneaking up on my prey with my knife out. I want it in my hand, primed, ready to lunge.
Where's the fun in a knife you can't hold menacingly? If there must be an on-demand melee attack, let it be hitting people with the handle of your gun or something, knocking back/disorienting your target - not inexplicably materializing a blade from thin-air. Edit: I don't completely loathe the idea of a quick-knife, I just don't see why anyone would prefer it to being able to hold one. The only benefit is coming around a corner and suddenly *oh shit!*, you hit your quick-knife panic button and get a kill, which is just cheese. Last edited by Vancha; 2012-02-07 at 02:05 PM. |

Already said this on twitter: NO to quick knives.
Why? Because they can be so much more than just a single button. There could be several different knives, each with a whole lot of customization options to them. There could be a whole skill tree for Infiltrators dedicated for the knives. There is a whole world of knives out there, a whole world that would simply fade away with quick knives. Besides, quick knives are only useful for a fast paced FPS with a lot of close combat. A insta kill weapon used when the enemy gets to close to you. Planetside 2's kill speed is said to be between BF BC2 and PS1. Thats way to slow to have insta kill quick knives not be completly overpowered. Means no insta kill for them, means they become quite useless. Now, with actual knives, and a dedicated tree of customization, a whole new level of potential cool stuff appears. Cloakers could get a special customization that gives their knive high damage, almost an insta kill. There could be customizations for faster stabbing, higher damage, heck even throwing it. There is loads of potential. |

Nope, Quick knife takes all the fun out of knifing people.
I want to enjoy the fact that I knifed someone in a gun fight with 3 quick stabs to them. Also a ability for anyone, if you have full shields and you get behind someone you can 1 hit/assassinate them, this prevents quick backstabs. |

Anyone remember the throwing knives from Soldier of Fortune 2? I'm not advocating infinite throwing knives, just the mechanic. |
