Dang, this makes me wonder again..... What is the range of a PS2 sniper rifle and how does it compare to the ES assault rifles?

That's correct. He confirmed this on the AGN broadcast last night. He also said that they did this to add a dynamic to the game and mentioned that it was quite fun, and balanced, with other classes. We haven't heard much about balance but we, as a community, should probably start debating balance issues once they start giving us more details of the weapon's and vehicle's abilities. Even if some of it is speculation...

Makes me wonder if the sniper rifles this time around are capable of OHK's to the body against shades (I'm calling them shades) like bolt drivers were in PS1. Would make sniper duels all the more intense, as opposed to just hitting some one and they back away to recover.

Then again, since a sniper in PS2 couldn't do that without being a medic (whom CAN'T use sniper rifles afaik) they'll probably be intense anyway, especially with the knowledge that the enemy might land a head shot for the instant kill. The active camo just turns it into a game of hunter vs hunter with tactics like feigning leaving cover to goad the enemy into exposing themselves with a chance shot.

In the case of suddenly being stalked by Jumpers, hunter vs hunted.

I think that it would be pretty interesting if every ES sniper rifle:

- Could one shot kill another sniper with a body shot

- Could one shot kill every other light armor class with a head shot

- Could NOT one shot kill a Heavy Assault armor or higher

To me, this would make for an exciting environment for snipers and their targets. Enemy snipers (and unwary cloakers) would be easy targets.

Lighter armored targets who can run around quicker would be harder to hit, but still be subject to sudden death if they stopped moving for a bit, especially dangerous for medics.

Heavy Assault is presumably slower, but they have a lot more armor, so all around I think they deserve to be able to survive a head shot. A head shot would still probably bring them down pretty low on health, making it that much easier to finish them off with body shots.

Of course, all of this is contingent on sniping being a tricky proposition. I'd like for someone who has never sniped before to have trouble landing body shots at ranges past where regular rifles are effective. Veteran snipers should still find it extremely difficult to land head shots on moving targets at longer ranges.

Having no armor and no AV weaponry is also going to make it that much harder on snipers trying to stay alive with A2G ES fighters on the hunt.

Just make it so that you can wear an ES fighter while you pilot your MAX.

That's pretty bad ass. Different variations of a cloaker.

/disagreed

I mean, the only way a sniper contributes to the team (and this contribution is very limited situation-wise) is by killing infantry. Locking a sniper in anti-sniper combat will render him entirely pointless. HS OSOK should stay. If there're PShield implants just make it so PShield saves a heavy from HSOSOK, if you need some damage differences that badly.

As a player that almost always plays a Recon/Sniper class in FPS games, I would prefer OSOK body shots FOR highly progressed, Sniper load-out, players.

If Snipers aren't going to be killing targets in one-shot, they need to be rewarded heavily for the other combat/non-combat actions they take.

I really hope the "real" infiltrator will be much less visible. Come on... that thing couldnt sneak up on a corpse

I think it was mentioned that while snipers will be infiltrators all the same, they would sorta have worse cloak than a "true infiltrator".

There is as said above likely to be different degrees of cloak. However in this sort of detailed game it will be harder to see this type of cloaker once stationary out in say the trees or mountains.

It's always awesome to watch infiltrators about to kill people who think they're invisible.
