Author Topic: Effective Infantry
shrtysk812 Station Member Registered: Jul 2002 posted 03-04-2003 08:30 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From many of the things that i am looking at and reading, it seems like to be effective on the battle front, you need to be a MAX...is this true? Don't get me wrong i know that there are a ton of different ways to help your side, (i.e. pilot, hacker) but is it possible for someone with a reinforced or agile armor cert to take out these mega-huge mechs?? And here is the WORD, as spoken by Spork, chapter 9, verse 27, fromt he book of Pain. SporkfirePS Station Admin Registered: Jan 2003 posted 03-05-2003 12:22 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The MAX has a very powerful offense and defense. What it lacks is the mobility of regular infantry. The MAX does have a travel mode, but it cannt fire in that mode. Also, it's turning radius is huge in that mode. When it is not in travel mode, it still moves rather slowly. The MAX is a very powerful unit, but there are tactics to take one out effectively. The MAX is good for taking down infantry at a range. Once a small group gets close and spreads out to open fire on it, its advantages start to weaken. Id say a sacrifice in movement and turn speed is good enough to dictate heavy armor and weapons. Don't think of them like a heavy weapons person in TFC for HL. Think of them as a walking tank. Who wouldn't want to have a powered armor suit? Don't think this should be straying too far from the topic.... I personally see playing as a stealther quite boring because of their lack of power, no armor, and vulnerability to sight when moving/when enemy uses Darklight Vision implant. Can anyone give me a clear and straightforward reason as to why you won't be playing as a MAX? |

The MAXs are 'rock' solid combatants for sure, making a mess of any 'scissors' they come across, but they'll get wrapped up in a nice neat 'paper' package by a unit they aren't equipped to deal with. The one interesting advantage they have is an attacker walking/driving/flying towards an enemy MAX probably won't know if it's one of the two kinds of MAXs he can walk all over or the one kind that can clean his clock.
Personally, I'll be using my superior armor AND high mobility (for a heavy tank) to circle-strafe anti-infantry and anti-air MAXs in my MagRider. If I see an anti-vehicle MAX? Well, that is what Reavers are for... And you are quite right, MrVulcan, about the Phoenix, it will be THE dominant extreme-range armored-target killer, but if the baddies succeed in getting closer than medium range, you will be definitely wishing for a Striker or Lancer. Hellsfire123, the MAX may be n00bish, but one reinforced vs one MAX, is gonna be a real short trip. If the MAX isn't an anti-infantry model, you've got a fighting chance, but my bet is still on the MAX unless you're a WHOLE lot better a player than the n00b in the MAX suit.
