Instead of attaching the main gun to the topside of the hull why not just add a small "driver's turret"? And then just place the driver's camera in a more usable spot. If people ask as to why the vanu made such an awkward setup then just tell them it was designed by mad scientists who thought it was a good design choice at the time. Also you could just make the cylinders on it's sides spin to indicate direction and just say the driver's seat is deeper in the hull and they see it as something different because of cameras. Just a thought I had in ways you could have a driver, main gunner, secondary gunner combo with out having to completely remodel the mag rider or come up with a heap of new animations for it.
Oh and one problem that I see with this idea is that drivers might get confused as to which way the tank is facing and they try to do some thing like slip in between a narrow gap between two trees going sideways. So what your thoughts on this idea for being able to cert the hull into essentially a giant turret? What are some problems with doing this that might come up? |

The reason I hear that they don't have a turret setup for the driver, is that the Magrider is so agile, it drives a little on the awkward side. Having a rotating turret would be far more difficult for the driver than a set turret, since a lot of Magrider movement is agile forms such as sidestrafing.
I'm sure they have a setup similar to almost anything you can think of, already planned to test in beta. After all, they stuck rocket boosters and a CANNON on an ATV for testing, there's bound to be a turret type Magrider to get a better feel of what the best gun setup for the tank is. |

When balanced against drivers controlling guns, the Magrider is fine. The Magrider is the turret, as you said Fanglord. It's not going to be a problem, so don't worry about that.
I would still like an option to place the main gun on a turret for a dedicated gunner cert though, because obviously a secondary gunner can't control a fixed forward gun. I think it would be perfectly balanced, because it was balanced fine that way in the first Planetside. The Magrider could strafe and stuff, but the main gun was still allowed to be on a turret. |

Idea 1: Don't invent anything and leave it without a cert.
Idea 2: Make the 2nd gunner cert switch the weapons instead of adding a gunner spot, so that driver gets less effective gunner's weapons, while gunner gets the driver's main cannon. The positions of guns are switched. The cert locks the classic setup, so the gunner always has a stronger gun if the "team tank" cert is in place. Idea 3: Cert unlocks a heavy AV gun for the gunner, the same gun the Driver uses.
