New to planetside, not sure about faction

So, hello everyone. Or to the one person reading this.

Totalbiscuit's videos have really gotten me excited for this game. I've registered for the Beta, but since I'm not an original player of PS and don't use twitter, chances are slim I'll be getting in. Still, I'll be patient! But due to the massive nature of this game, it seemed appropriate to build up a base off people I know who play it, find some folks who know more about it than I do. Because I'm used to shooting things in video games, I'm less used to having to decide what to shoot

I'm hesitating between NC and Terran.. Terran seems more to my mind-set but their "fast and light" weapons don't appeal to me as much. The NC weaponry seems more suited to me. So which should I go with? Convince me!

I see lots of people talking about what class they're gonna play and which specialization, but I'm mostly still wanting to just test things out. Will people want me dead because I'm still messing around a bit in the first days of playing?

Nothing wrong with finding out what you like. Problem being, most outfits aren't going to take you until you've settled on an empire.

The other problem being, you're going to be spending time figuring where to stay while you're only allowed 1 character per server. So you're losing time getting certs and may have to remake your main character on your server of choice.

Personally, I started TR and played that a few weeks in PS1 before going NC. But my choice was purely a game mechanic & technical issue. The fast and light weapons of TR on PS1 didn't register hits for me so i switched to NC where my weapons would actually damage a person they hit. Now i go where my outfit goes, not to mention PS2 shouldn't have that issue.

Assuming SoE achieves balance among the three factions, it's all about each faction's unique feel that should win you over. NC seems too clunky, and the Vanu colors turn me off. I love mobility in vehicles and high RoF in general so here I am representing.
