I watched the hamma + higby interview where air strikes are mentioned and I just wanted to elaborate on what I'd like to see in terms of faction specifics.
TR - A barrage of artillery. Like in Blacklight Retribution but bigger. Will produce a nice smoke cloud that will linger for a while. Could be used for cover. NC - One big bertha of a bomb. Makes a nice Mushroom cloud. (No other OS makes a mushroom) When the bomb is a certain size (you can change how powerful the OS is). There should be a white flash that accompanies the bomb for anyone who is close. Basically a nuke w/o the radiation. ---Both TR and VS smoke/dust from OS lingers a bit for cover. Troops / aircraft could use this smoke just like the volumetric clouds that are being planned. VS - An anti-matter bomb that makes a purple AOE dome. Than the dome shrinks. Player caught in the dome will have their screens shrink to the middle. The sound aids the effect. I want the VS OS to be an implosion. Hardly ever see implosions in gaming. There will be no cloud/dust. The purple/blue dome will illuminate the night sky. The anti matter bomb will activate in the air and create the Implosion Dome. Side Note: I tried to look for an implosion in gaming on youtube. Couldnt find any. Just goes to show how different this would be. Last edited by Masterr; 2012-07-02 at 03:08 PM. |

Whatever they do, I would like to see the the Orbital weapons attached to the future Loadstar. A Loadstar that looked something like the Orca Transport from C&C.
Along with carrying, or landing and assembling vehicles, it could be certed as an OS platform where you bring your commander who has the OS certs to operate the weapons along with. As long as you can protect this platform you can rearm, and reuse it. Of course at great operating cost and cool-down. But I was thining about the same type of weapons. TR: Downward firing rockets from cluster bomb NC: Daisy Cutter VS: Energy Beam or Bomb. Last edited by MrSmegz; 2012-07-03 at 01:55 AM. |

Tho OP's idea is great, but a bit optimistic in execution.
For development time & balance reasons, it'd be best if you had 3 visual options for one system. The more complicated a system, the more likely it will never make it into the final game. The implosion idea is nifty, but that'd be new animations & models for every vehicle & character model in the game. I'd say the easiest way to differentiate would be by the 3 basic projectile types available in a sci-fi setting: Bullets, Missiles, & Energy weapons TR: Railgun Nice & simple, they fire a big gun at the target. You hear a far off boom, then the ground explodes into a cloud of debris. There probably should be some kind of laser lock on effect to provide the same brief warning as PS1 had. Maybe 3 red lasers come down from the sky around the point of impact, converge, then disappear just before impact. NC: Missile You hear that familiar missile drop sound & watch the payload come in for a nice, satisfying fireball. The warning for this one could simply be the visual/sound of the incoming missile itself, since it would a relatively slow "projectile." VS: Laser Cannon Just like PS1. You have a narrow beam that expands & intensifies until reaching its critical stage & disintegrates everything in it's area of effect. In all cases, the same code is running. Begin > Brief Delay while displaying warning queue > Destroy everything within the given area |
